Abstract

Latar belakang dari penelitian ini karena masih banyak masyarakat terutama
generasi muda yang tidak mengetahui asal-usul nama daerahnya sendiri dan juga
belum adanya dokumentasi atau inventarisasi mengenai asal-usul, aspek toponimi
serta pola nama-nama kampung di Kecamatan Rancakalong. Tujuan dari
penelitian ini yaitu untuk mendeskripsikan: 1) Sejarah atau asal-usul nama
kampung di Kecamatan Rancakalong, 2) Pola yang digunakan dalam penamaan
kampung di Kecamatan Rancakalong, dan 3) Aspek toponimi yang terkandung
dalam nama kampung di Kecamatan Rancakalong. Penelitian ini menggunakan
pendekatan kualitatif metode deskriptif analisis. Teknik yang digunakan untuk
mengumpulkan data yaitu dengan triangulasi yang meliputi observasi,
wawancara, dan dokumentasi, serta dilengkapi dengan studi pustaka. Hasil dari
penelitian ini diperoleh asal-usul nama kampung yang berkaitan dengan keadaan
alam dan lingkungan sekitarnya, berdasarkan keadaan sosial masyarakatnya,
dipengaruhi oleh objek yang telah ada di masa lampau, berdasarkan cerita yang
menyebar di masarakat, dan berdasarkan ucapan yang dipercayai dari leluhur�leluhurnya. Selain daripada itu, juga diperoleh fenomena nama kampung baru
yang disebabkan oleh perubahan dari nama sebelumnya, diperoleh nama
kampung yang rubah secara pelafalan, serta diperoleh nama kampung yang
masih diketahui individu yang memberi nama tersebut. Dalam pola toponimi,
pola nama gabung terdiri dari 49 nama, sedangkan pola liniernya terdapat 11
nama. Secara aspek toponimi, diperoleh 38 nama kampung aspek fisikal yang
meliputi 24 nama unsur hidrologis, 11 nama unsur geomorfologis, dan 17 nama
unsur biologi. Dalam aspek non-fisikal, diperoleh 38 nama kampung yang terdiri
dari 26 unsur sosial meliputi ekspektasi, tempat spesifik, kampung, bangunan,
personal, dan alat. Nama kampung unsur kultural tediri dari 13 nama, 12
berdasar cerita rakyat, dan 1 nama berdasarkan „uga‟ atau ucapan nenek
moyang.

The background of this research is because there are still many people, especially
the younger generation, who do not know the origin of their regional names, and
also there is no documentation or inventory regarding the origins, toponym
aspects, and patterns of village names in Rancakalong District. The purpose of
this study is to describe: 1) the history or origin of village names in Rancakalong
District, 2) The pattern used in naming villages in Rancakalong District, and 3)
Toponymous aspects contained in village names in Rancakalong District. This
study uses a qualitative descriptive analysis method. The technique used to collect
data is triangulation which includes observation, interviews, and documentation,
and is equipped with a literature study. The results of this study obtained the
origin of the name of the village related to the state of nature and the surrounding
environment, based on the social conditions of the community, influenced by
objects that had existed in the past, based on stories that spread in the community,
and based on what was believed by their ancestors. . Apart from that, the
phenomenon of the name of the new village was also obtained due to the change
from the previous name, the name of the village that was changed in
pronunciation was obtained, and the name of the village that was still known to
the individual who gave the name was obtained. In the toponym pattern, the
combined name pattern consists of 49 names, while the linear pattern consists of
11 names. From the toponym aspect, 38 names of physical aspects of villages
were obtained which include 24 names of hydrological elements, 11 names of
geomorphological elements, and 17 names of biological elements. In the non�physical aspect, 38 village names were obtained consisting of 26 social elements
including expectations, place, specific village, development, personal, and tools.
The name of the village of cultural elements consists of 13 names, 12 based on
folklore, and 1 name based on ancestral beliefs.
