Abstract

Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan representasi matematis pada bangun ruang sisi datar pada tingkat Sekolah Menengah Pertama. Penelitian ini melibatkan 27 siswa kelas VIII SMP. Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Instrumen penelitian kemampuan representasi matematis menggunakan 5 butir soal berbentuk uraian. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Adapun teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa, dapat disimpulkan pada kemampuan representasi visual menunjukan belum semua siswa dapat menyebutkan dengan tepat semua unsur bangun ruang dari gambar bangun ruang sisi datar yang telah diberikan; kemampuan representasi gambar siswa menunjukkan sebagian besar siswa sudah dapat dengan tepat menyajikan sebuah gambar menjadi beberapa gambar lainnya; kemampuan representasi persamaan atau ekspresi matematis menunjukkan bahwa belum semua siswa dapat menyelesaikan pertanyaan menggunakan persamaan yang tepat dari soal yang diberikan; kemampuan representasi kata atau teks yang dimiliki siswa masih rendah hal ini ditujukkan pada hasil penelitian masih banyak siswa yang tidak dapat menyelesaikan permasalahan yang diberikan. Secara keseluruhan pada penelitian ini menunjukkan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa SMP pada materi bangun ruang sisi datar masih berada dalam kategori sedang. This study aims to describe the ability of mathematical representation on flat side shapes at the junior high school level. This research involved 27 grade VIII students of junior high school. The research method used in this study is a qualitative approach with a case study approach. The research instrument for the ability of mathematical representation uses 5 items in the form of descriptions. The method used in this research is qualitative with a case study approach. The data analysis technique used is the presentation of data and drawing conclusions. The results of the study revealed that, it can be concluded that the visual representation ability shows that not all students can correctly name all the geometrical elements of the flat sided geometric figures that have been given; the students' image representation ability shows that most of the students are able to correctly present an image into several other images; the ability to represent equations or mathematical expressions shows that not all students can solve questions using the exact equation of the given problem; the ability to represent words or texts that students have is still low, this is shown in the results of the study there are still many students who cannot solve the problems given. Overall, this study shows that the mathematical representation abilities of junior high school students in the flat sided geometric material are still in the medium category.
