Abstract

Membaca permulaan adalah salah satu kemampuan yang harus dikuasai siswa sekolah dasar khususnya kelas rendah. Kemampuan membaca diperlukan siswa dalam pembelajaran untuk mendapatkan informasi yang diberikan dari guru, buku pelajaran maupun media lainnya yang digunakan dalam pembelajaran. Pra penelitian menunjukkan bahwa masih terdapat lima siswa kelas II di SDN 3 Nagritengah yang kesulitan membaca permulaan sehingga mereka kesulitan dalam mengikuti pembelajaran. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa, faktor-faktor penghambat, dan upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan. Peneliti menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Subjek penelitian yang terlibat sebanyak lima siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelima siswa masih memiliki hambatan dalam membaca permulaan diantaranya masih menggunakan jari telunjuk, kepala, dan bibir, masih kesulitan membedakan huruf, belum mampu menggabungkan huruf menjadi suku kata, kata, dan kalimat sederhana sehingga terjadi penambahan dan penggantian huruf serta membaca kata secara terbalik, belum mampu membaca kata yang tersusun atas gabungan huruf konsonan atau kluster, dan belum lancar dalam membaca nyaring dan pemahaman. Faktor yang mempengaruhi kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa diantaranya faktor fisiologis, faktor intelektual, faktor lingkungan, dan faktor psikologis. Upaya yang dilakukan untuk mengatasi hambatan tersebut adalah memotivasi siswa, penggunaan media pembelajaran yang menarik dan variatif, pembiasaan kegiatan membaca kepada siswa, dan melakukan diskusi antara orang tua dan guru terkait kesulitan yang dihadapi siswa,karakteristik dan kebiasaan di rumah, serta penyesuaian metode pembelajaran. Kata kunci: Kemampuan, Membaca permulaan, Siswa ----- Early reading is one of the skills that must be mastered by elementary school students, especially in the lower grades. The ability to read is needed by students in learning to get information provided from teachers, textbooks, and other media used in learning. The pre-research showed that there were still five grade II students at SDN 3 Nagritengah who had difficulty reading at the beginning, so they had difficulty following the lesson. Therefore, this study aims to determine students' early reading skills, inhibiting factors, and efforts that can be made to improve early reading skills. Researchers used a qualitative approach with the case study method. The research subjects involved were five students. The results revealed that the five students still had obstacles to overcome in order to learn to read, such as using the index finger, head, and lips, having difficulty distinguishing letters, and not being able to combine letters into syllables, words, and simple sentences, which resulted in adding and replacing letters and reading words. in reverse, not yet able to read words composed of a combination of consonants or clusters, but yet fluent in reading aloud and comprehension. Factors that influence students' initial reading ability include physiological factors, intellectual factors, environmental factors, and psychological factors. Solutions made to overcome these obstacles include motivating students, using interesting and varied learning media, getting students used to reading activities, holding discussions between parents and teachers regarding the difficulties faced by students, their characteristics, and habits at home, and adjusting learning methods.
