Abstract
Basic chemistry is a prerequisite material for students of the pharmacy study program, so it is necessary to apply good and complete basic chemistry learning. In this study, the online RADEC learning model assisted by CCT textbooks was used to determine changes in concept mastery and multi-level representation abilities (Triple Johnstone). The purpose of this study was to analyze the mastery of basic chemical concepts and the ability to multi-level representation (Triple Johnstone) with the CCT-assisted online RADEC model and to estimate what factors influence it. This study uses mixed methods as a research design which will be the framework of reference in this study. The chosen mixed methods research model is an embedded experiment. The quantitative research design used a quasi-experimental one group pretest posttest and a qualitative research using phenomenology which was conducted for four semesters with 60 respondents. The processed data is then analyzed for stacking and racking using the Rasch model. From the stacking analysis, it was found that students experienced changes in concept mastery and multi-level representation skills (Triple Johnstone). Most of the students changed with the category increasing by 60.8%; did not change 37.2%; and decreased by 2%. The ability of multi-level representation (Triple Johnstone) at the macroscopic level increases by 96.7%; unchanged 3.3%; at the submicroscopic level it increased by 88.3%; did not change 11.7%; and at the symbolic level it increased by 98.3%; and decreased 1.7%. The results of the racking analysis found that there was a decrease in the level of difficulty and concepts that were considered difficult were found such as the concept of material classification, colloids; atomic theory and properties, determination of p, e, n, orbital diagrams; reaction equalization; molecular shape; nomenclature of complex compounds; elemental content, empirical formula, and water content in crystals; redox oxidation and equalization; the reaction rate factor, the reaction order, and the role of temperature calculation of the reaction rate; radioactive rays; and elemental properties. The CCT-assisted online RADEC model can change concept mastery and multi-level representation capabilities (Triple Johnstone). In addition, the RADEC and CCT stages developed help train independence, interest in reading, enthusiasm for learning, the ability to think and communicate, appreciate, think at a higher level and creatively apply concepts in everyday life.
