Abstract

Musik improvisasi bebas, yang didefinisikan dalam tesis ini sebagai “permainan seni bunyi yang menghindari kesepakatan apapun”, telah menginspirasikan ratusan kajian akademis yang membahasnya dari berbagai sudut pandang dan pendekatan. Tesis ini berjudul Tinjauan Integratif Konsep, Manfaat, dan Pembelajaran Musik Improvisasi Bebas menggunakan metode kajian kualitatif dengan pendekatan tinjauan integratif untuk menyimpulkan sebagian literatur, termasuk hampir semua tulisan pendahulu dan terpengaruh. Melalui pikiran logis dan konseptual, literatur dibandingkan dan dilengkapi dengan pengalaman penulis sehingga terhasilkan pembaruan teoretis yang disajikan dalam sebuah pengetahuan mutakhir dan menyeluruh mengenai konsep, manfaat, dan pembelajaran musik improvisasi bebas. Tujuan khusus penelitian adalah menerangkan tentang konsep, manfaat, dan pembelajaran improvisasi bebas supaya dapat memandu siapa saja yang ingin mempraktikan, menerapkan, dan/atau mengetahui tentangnya; sedangkan tujuan umum adalah menyebarkan gerakan improvisasi bebas supaya manfaatnya yang beranekaragam mengalir ke masyarakat luas. Di antara temuan orisinel tesis ini termasuk: definisi musik improvisasi bebas; konsep kesepakatan; ketentuan-ketentuan yang dapat dimaklumi dalam permainan improvisasi bebas; sembilan tujuan sekunder dan tiga konteks improvisasi bebas; model kesinambungan interpretasi-improvisasi; penggolongan manfaat improvisasi bebas; penggolongan sifat dan peran seorang pembimbing; berbagai sasaran kelas/kursus; pembahasan tentang sarana,para-sarana, multi-instrumentisme, penyeteman, dan rekaman; penggolongan pelatihan improvisasi bersepakat; konsep teknik integral permainan improvisasi bebas; dan 18 renungan, maksim, dan saran yang menyimpulkan aspek tertentu dari teknik integral ini. Bagian ini merupakan sumbangan utama tesis ini sebab dapat mengisi rentang literatur mengenai teknik improvisasi bebas. Kata Kunci: konsep musik improvisasi bebas, manfaat musik improvisasi bebas, pembelajaran musik improvisasi bebas, teknik musik improvisasi bebas. Free improvisation music, defined in this thesis as an “artistic playing of sounds that avoids any kind of agreement”, has inspired hundreds of academic research which study it from different perspectives and approaches. This thesis titled Integrative Review of the Concept, Benefits, and Learning of Free Improvisation Music uses a qualitative research method with an integrative review approach in order to synthesize a part of this literature, including almost all the precursor and most influential texts. Through logic and conceptual thinking, the literature is compared and completed with the experience of the author; resulting in a theoretical development that is presented as an updated and complete knowledge about the concept, benefits, and learning of free improvisation music. The specific objective of this research is to explain the concept, benefits, and learning of free improvisation so it can guide anyone who wishes to practice, implement, or know about it; while its general objective is to spread the free improvisation movement so its multiplicity of benefits can reach a wider population. Some of the original findings in this thesis are: the definition of free improvisation music; the agreement concept; the comprehensible factors in free improvisation playing; the nine secondary objectives and three contexts of free improvisation; the interpretation-improvisation continuum model; the classification of the benefits of free improvisation; the classification of the attitudes and roles of a mentor; different targets in a class/workshop; the discussion about the basic needs, multi-instrumentalism, tunning, and recording; the classification of the agreed improvisation exercises; the integral technique of free improvisation concept; and the 18 reflections, maxims, and advices that synthesizese specific aspects of this integral technique. This part is the main contribution of this thesis because it can fill the literature gap about free improvisation technique.
