Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kasus-kasus diskriminasi terhadap penyandang disabilitas yang terjadi di Indonesia, yaitu Menteri Sosial Risma yang diduga memaksa penyandang tunarungu berbicara, penerbangan Garuda Indonesia yang diduga memberikan kursi prioritas bagi penyandang disabilitas kepada pejabat, serta karyawan Grab Indonesia yang diduga menghina penyandang disabilitas. Hal tersebut diberitakan berbagai media massa. Namun, dalam praktik jurnalisme saat ini, prinsip keseimbangan, keakuratan dan kehati-hatian sering diabaikan, terutama jurnalisme online. Jurnalisme online selalu menjadi sorotan karena sering tidak mengedepankan objektivitas berita. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk meneliti penggunaan bahasa dalam pemberitaan tentang penyandang disabilitas di media daring, dan memanfaatkan hasil analisisnya sebagai bahan ajar teks berita di SMP Kelas VIII sebagai salah satu upaya meningkatkan rasa simpati dan empati terhadap penyandang disabilitas. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis wacana kritis model Fowler, Hodge, Krew, & Tress. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan jenis kosakata dan kalimat yang digunakan dalam pemberitaan lebih menonjolkan penyandang disabilitas selaku korban, dibandingkan pelaku. Kemudian, hasil analisis pemberitaan digunakan sebagai rancangan bahan ajar teks berita untuk capaian pembelajaran elemen membaca dan memirsa. The background of this research is cases of discrimination against persons with disabilities that occurred in Indonesia, namely the Minister of Social Affairs Risma who allegedly forced a deaf person to speak, Garuda Indonesia flights which allegedly gave priority seats for persons with disabilities to a government official, and Grab Indonesia employees who were suspected of insulting a person with disabilities. This was reported in various mass media. However, in the current practice of journalism, the principles of balance, accuracy, and prudence are often neglected, especially by online journalism. Online journalism has always been in the spotlight because it often does not prioritize news objectivity. This study was conducted to examine the use of language in online media reporting about persons with disabilities, and to use the results of the analysis as teaching material for news texts in 8th grade of junior high school as an effort to increase sympathy and empathy for persons with disabilities. The method used in this research is a critical discourse analysis model of Fowler, Hodge, Krew, & Tress. The results show that the types of vocabulary and sentences used in the news highlight people with disabilities as victims, rather than perpetrators. Then, the results of the news analysis are used as news text teaching materials for learning outcomes of reading and viewing elements.
