Abstract

Silver is one of the elements that has the best thermal and electrical conductor properties of all metals, and is ideal for electrical applications. One of the electronic waste that contains silver metal with a high level of consumption is printed circuit boards (PCBs). To reduce the amount of PCB waste and increase the availability of silver, it is possible to extract silver from PCB waste using an environmentally friendly eutectic solvent called Deep Eutectic Solvent (DES). This study aims to synthesize glycerin DES, determine the effect of temperature on silver extraction, and silver electrodeposition using cyclic voltammetry. Glycerin DES synthesis was carried out by mixing chlorin chloride and glycerol in 1:1 mole variation; 1:1.5; and 1:2. The optimum mole ratio of choline chloride and glycerol obtained is 1:2. The results of the DES synthesis were characterized by FTIR and the density was measured in triples using a pycnometer. The density of glycerin DES is 1.1378 g/mL. The results of the XRF characterization of PCB samples showed that the silver concentration contained in it was 178.5940 ppm. The results of leaching in temperature variations of 70, 80, 90, 100, and 120 C indicate that the increase in temperature in the leaching tends to result in an increase in the percentage of silver extraction. Results Based on cyclic voltammetry, it is known that the silver contained in the leached filtrate can be electrodepositioned on a gold electrode with a silver reduction potential value of -0.037 V with a range of -0.8 V to 0.7 V and a scanning speed of 50 mV/s. Thus, silver extraction from PCB waste can be carried out using DES glyceline mole ratio of 1:2.
