Abstract

Kemampuan representasi matematis merupakan salah satu kompetensi yang perlu dimiliki oleh siswa. Namun, pada kenyataannya masih banyak siswa yang belum dapat merepresentasikan penyelesaian masalah baik dalam representasi visual, representasi persamaan atau ekspresi matematis dan representasi kata-kata atau teks tertulis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mendeskripsikan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa SMP pada materi sistem persamaan linear dua variabel berdasarkan gaya kognitif reflektif dan impulsif, (2) mendeskripsikan kesulitan dan faktor penyebab kesulitan yang dialami siswa SMP berdasarkan gaya kognitif reflektif dan impulsif dalam menyelesaikan soal representasi matematis pada materi SPLDV. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus melibatkan 33 partisipan untuk mengikuti tes gaya kognitif (MFFT) dan diperoleh 6 subjek penelitian dengan 3 siswa reflektif dan 3 siswa impulsif. Hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa siswa yang bergaya kognitif reflektif dapat menjawab dengan benar dan tepat pada beberapa soal dalam semua indikator kemampuan representasi matematis yaitu representasi visual, representasi persamaan atau ekspresi matematis dan representasi kata-kata atau teks tertulis sedangkan representasi matematis siswa yang bergaya kognitif impulsif merepresentasikan penyelesaiaan masalah dengan banyak melakukan kesalahan. Pada indikator representasi visual, siswa impulsif tidak dapat menyajikan grafik dan menyelesaikan masalah menggunakan representasi visualnya. Beberapa siswa impusif dalam representasi matematis tidak dapat membuat model matematika dan tidak mampu menjawab soal dengan menggunakan kata-kata dalam menyatakan bentuk PLDV dan SPLDV. However, in reality there are still many students who have not been able to represent problems both in visual representations, representations of equations or mathematical expressions and representations of words or written texts. This study aims to: (1) analyze and describe the mathematical representation abilities of junior high school students on the material of a two-variable linear equation system based on reflective and impulsive cognitive styles, (2) describe the difficulties and factors causing the difficulties experienced by junior high school students based on reflective and impulsive cognitive styles in solving mathematical representation problems on the SPLDV material. This research was conducted using a case study method involving 33 participants to take the cognitive style test (MFFT) and obtained 6 research subjects with 3 reflective students and 3 impulsive students. The results showed that students with reflective cognitive style could answer correctly on several questions in all indicators of mathematical representation ability, namely visual representation, representation of mathematical equations or expressions and representation of words or written text. While the mathematical representation of students with impulsive cognitive style represents problem solving by making lots of mistakes. In the visual representation indicator, impulsive students cannot present graphs and solve problems using their visual representations. Some impulsive students in mathematical representation cannot make mathematical models and are unable to answer questions using words in expressing the PLDV and SPLDV forms.
