Abstract

Penampilan dapat memberikan kesan pertama bagi orang lain, hal tersebut yang membuat penampilan menjadi perhatian utama. Fenomena tersebut mendorong kita untuk terus melakukan evaluasi terhadap penampilan dan memengaruhi ketidakpuasan pada bentuk tubuh. Perasaan tidak puas terhadap bentuk tubuh merupakan dampak dari evaluasi yang disebut body dissatisfaction. Body dissatisfaction dapat dijumpai pada mahasiswa wanita maupun pria. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh perbandingan sosial terhadap body dissatisfaction pada mahasiswa pengguna aktif instagram di Kota Bandung yang dimediasi oleh self-esteem. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif, dengan analisis regresi linier berganda. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa pengguna aktif instagram di Kota Bandung berusia 18 tahun sampai 24 tahun sebanyak 349 orang. Teknik pengambilan sampel dalam penelitian ini menggunakan accidental sampling. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari perbandingan sosial terhadap body dissatisfaction yang dimediasi oleh self-esteem. Kata Kunci: body dissatisfaction, perbandingan sosial, self-esteem. Appearance can give a first impression to others, it is this that makes appearance a major concern. This phenomenon encourages us to continuously evaluate our appearance and affects dissatisfaction with body shape. Feelings of dissatisfaction with body shape are the impact of an evaluation called body dissatisfaction. Body dissatisfaction can be found in female and male students. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of social comparison on body dissatisfaction among students who are active users of Instagram in Bandung, which is mediated by self-esteem. The study used a quantitative approach, with multiple linear regression analysis. The subjects in this study were students who were active users of Instagram in the city of Bandung aged 18 to 24 years as many as 349 people. The sampling technique in this study used accidental sampling. Based on the test results, there is a significant effect of social comparison on body dissatisfaction mediated by self-esteem.
