Abstract
Every archivist should be supported with competencies that are in accordance with the field of archives. However, many things have happened between educational background and type of work that have an impact on the discovery of the phenomenon of archivist competence and performance. In this study, the topic of the problem studied was the level of archivist competence which was indicated to result in the low level of archivist performance using the control variable of educational background at the Regional Library and Archives Service of West Java Province. The purpose of this study was to obtain a description of the level of archivist competence and archivist performance seen from the educational background, and to determine the effect of archivist competence level on the level of archivist performance at the Regional Library and Archives Service of West Java Province. This study uses a quantitative approach that is descriptive verification. The research method uses an explanatory survey with a population of 52 archivists. Data collection techniques through the distribution of questionnaires. This study uses a simple linear regression data analysis technique. The theory of organizational behavior from Stephen P. Robbins and Timothy A. Judge will be used as a grand theory to solve the problems that occur. Based on the research, the overall picture of archivist competence is perceived as very high for archivists with archival education backgrounds, and high for archivists with non-archiving educational backgrounds. Meanwhile, the overall picture of archivist performance is perceived as high for archivists with archival education backgrounds and for archivists with non-archiving educational backgrounds. The results showed that there was a positive and significant influence between the Competence of Archives and the Performance of Archives at the Regional Library and Archives Service of West Java Province.
