Abstract

Kemampuan peserta didik dalam memahami suatu pelajaran terutama pada pelajaran matematika, menjadi kunci utama peserta didik untuk mendapatkan hasil belajar yang baik. Pemahaman peserta didik dalam pelajaran matematika tentunya membutuhkan keterampilan berhitung yang baik pula, sehingga kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan keterampilan berhitung merupakan indikator yang terbilang saling berhubungan dan tidak dapat terpisahkan terutama dalam pelajaran matematika. Namun, ternyata berdasarkan pengamatan peneliti, kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan keterampilan berhitung peserta didik masih rendah. Pengamatan tersebut dilakukan pada saat peneliti sedang mengajar di salah satu lembaga sekolah non-formal. Kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan keterampilan berhitung peserta didik yang terbilang rendah, tentunya membutuhkan suatu metode belajar yang dapat menunjang pembelajaran dan dapat meningkatkan dua indikator tersebut. Salah satu metode pembelajaran yang dapat digunakan ialah metode jari aljabar. Metode ini merupakan metode hitung cepat yang dapat membantu peserta didik baik dalam keterampilan berhitung dan dalam kemampuan pemahaman matematis. Penerapan metode jari aljabar pada peserta didik kelas I dengan jumlah 30 orang, pada materi penjumlahan dan pengurangan memberikan pengaruh yang positif. Hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan hasil uji beda rata-rata yang diperoleh dari tes kemampuan pemahaman matematis, bahwa hasil posttest lebih besar dari hasil pretest. Selain itu, pada tes keterampilan berhitung juga memperoleh hasil yang sama, di mana hasil posttest dengan skor waktu rata-rata ada pada kategori cepat, sedangkan dari hasil pretest skor waktu rata-rata yang diperoleh ada pada kategori sangat lambat. Kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan keterampilan berhitung yang mendapatkan pengaruh positif dari penggunaan metode jari aljabar juga didukung dengan respon positif peserta didik yang diperoleh dari hasil observasi aktivitas dan wawancara peserta didik. Dengan demikian, berdasarkan perolehan data tersebut menunjukkan bahwa metode jari aljabar dapat memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan keterampilan berhitung pada materi penjumlahan dan pengurangan. However, it turns out that based on the observations of researchers, the ability of mathematical understanding and numeracy skills of students is still low. These observations were made when teaching at a non-formal school institution. The ability of mathematical understanding and numeracy skills of relatively low students of course requires a learning method that can support learning and would improve these two indicators. One of the learning methods that can use is the finger algebra method. This method is a quick count method that can help students both in numeracy skills and mathematical understanding abilities. The finger algebra method for class I students with a total of 30 people, on addition and subtraction material has a positive influence This is evidenced by the average difference test results obtained from the mathematical understanding ability test, that the posttest results are greater than the pretest results. In addition, the numeracy skills test also obtained the same results, where the posttest results with the average time score were in the fast category, while from the pretest results the average time score obtained was in the very slow category. The ability of mathematical understanding and numeracy skills that get a positive influence from the use of the finger algebra method is also supported by the positive responses of students obtained from the results of activity observations and student interviews. Thus, based on the data obtained, it shows that the finger algebra method can have a positive influence on the ability to understand mathematical and numeracy skills in addition and subtraction material.
