Abstract
Motivasi mempunyai peranan penting dalam proses belajar mengajar baik bagi guru maupun siswa, dapat dijadikan acuan dalam mencari solusi permasalahan pembelajaran, dan guru dapat memberikan media dan metode pembelajaran yang beragam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mengetahui tingkat motivasi motivasi belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS kelas VIII-G di SMPN 19 Bandung, (2) peran guru dalam meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa dan (3) Kendala yang dihadapi guru dalam meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa. Metode yang digunakan peneliti yaitu kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek penelitiannya yang terdiri dari guru IPS dan siswa IPS kelas VIII-G. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara secara online, observasi dan dokumentasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian bahwa tingkat motivasi belajar siswa masih rendah dapat di lihat ketika awal pembelajaran masih banyak siswa yang belum siap dalam melaksanakan kegiatan belajar, serta masih ada siswa yang bercanda di dalam kelas ketika pembelajaran berlangsung dan penggunaan metode yang dilakukan guru tidak beragam. Peran yang dilakukan oleh guru IPS dengan pemberian reinforcement positif (pujian, hadiah, tepuk tangan dan pemberian motivasi) dan negatif (hukuman). Hambatan yang dihadapi guru karena faktor intern yaitu siswa kurang fokus dalam menerima materi pelajaran, dan guru yang belum dapat memahami karakter siswa, serta faktor ekstern yaitu sarana dan prasarana yang terbatas. Kata kunci: IPS, Motivasi, Guru, Siswa Motivation has an important role in the teaching and learning process for both teachers and students, can be used as a reference in finding solutions to learning problems, and teachers can provide various media and learning methods. This study aims to (1) determine the level of student motivation in social studies class VIII-G at SMPN 19 Bandung, (2) the role of teachers in increasing student motivation and (3) obstacles faced by teachers in increasing student motivation. The method used by researchers is descriptive qualitative. The research subjects consisted of social studies teachers and social studies students class VIII-G. Data collection techniques through online interviews, observation and documentation. Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that the level of student learning motivation is still low when the beginning of learning there are still many students who are not ready to carry out learning activities, and there are still students who joke in the classroom when learning takes place and the use of methods by the teacher is not diverse. The role played by social studies teachers is by providing positive reinforcement (praise, gifts, applause and motivation) and negative (punishment). The obstacles faced by teachers are due to internal factors, namely students who are less focused in receiving subject matter, and teachers who are not yet able to understand the character of students, as well as external factors, namely limited facilities and infrastructure.
