Abstract

This study discusses the role of parents in the social studies learning process at home during the pandemic-covid-19, the obstacles faced by parents in the social studies learning process, and the efforts made by parents in overcoming these obstacles in class VII-C of SMP Kartika XIX. -2 Bandung. This study used a qualitative descriptive method at SMP Kartika XIX-2 Bandung. The data collection technique used by researchers in this research is to use interview techniques and documentation studies. The results showed that the role of parents in the social studies learning process at home during the Covid-19 pandemic was that some parents had played their roles well as educators, mentors, motivators and facilitators in social studies learning. Constraints faced by parents First, the obstacles that come from the parents themselves, such as a) the limitations of parents in understanding social studies material. b) Difficulty sharing time in supervising children's learning. Not all parents can accompany children because parents are busy with their work. c) Different learning systems, parents are less able to follow technology-based learning systems. The two obstacles that come from children such as: a) a saturated learning atmosphere during the Covid-19 pandemic, a lack of activity between social studies teachers and students so that children do not understand how to absorb the material. b) difficulty dealing with children, studying at home makes children lazy and switches to other social media that are not for learning, the efforts made by parents in overcoming obstacles are 1) Strengthening the standard of behavior of the intended child: First listening to children's complaints. Second, the consistency of parents in providing assertiveness and explanation to children. 2) Strengthening the social studies learning process by providing direction and trust.
