Abstract

ABSTRACT Suhana. 1603310. Statistical Literacy Analysis of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Students Viewed From Cognitive Style. UPI Postgraduate Mathematics Education. This research was initiated due to the low statistical literacy skills of students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah. The focus of this study was to obtain an overview of students' statistical literacy skills in terms of reflective and impulsive cognitive styles in one of the State MTs in Sumedang Regency, West Java, Indonesia. The participants of this research were 33 students 9th grader of MTs. The research methodology used was a qualitative approach using instruments consisting of tests of impulsive and reflective cognitive styles developed by Warli, Watson's statistical literacy test, and semi-structured interviews. The results showed that there was a relationship between students' statistical literacy abilities and cognitive styles. Student with impulsive and reflective cognitive styles was at an inconsistent level due to online game addiction and low understanding of statistical material. Students with impulsive cognitive style were at levels that are inconsistent, and consistent non-critical. Students with reflective cognitive style were at the level of inconsistent, consistent non-critical, critical and critical mathematics. Student who were not impulsive and non-reflective cognitive styles have a low level of statistical literacy, that is, at an inconsistent level. Students with a reflective style were at a better level because students were more careful in answering and considering mature answers, while students with impulsive cognitive styles tend to rush in answers and think less critically so that the answers given were less precise. Based on this research, it was hoped that educators will be able to accommodate the cognitive styles of each student during teaching and learning activities..
