Abstract
The aim of this research is to develop democracy values in Islamic education through islamic Education Science learning with inquiry approach model. Practically, the model was implemented through field investigation and learning in the classroom. It focused on an effort to develop intrinsic and instrumental of Islamic education democracy values. The Islamic education democracy values, developed in this research, include the values of justice, freedom, equality, deliberation, diversity, and tolerance.This research uses qualitative method and using inductive and interim analysis technique. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interview, and document analysis. This study finds that inquiry approach model implemented by lecturer in the learning of Islamic Education Science is able to develop Islamic education democracy values. In values context, learning is managed to develop: (a) student's comprehension on intrinsic and instrumental of Islamic education democracy values, and (b) democracy attitude and behavior, which is performed by students in the learning as a whole. Then, in inquiry approach context, learning is managed to: (a) teach students in developing Islamic education democracy values, and (b) change lecturer's role to be facilitator in directing, guiding, and moving students to self-study in developing Islamic education democracy values.Based on such findings, it is recommended that: (a) democracy values should be made as the core of the program and. educational activities. Those values are integrated into the entire subject matter and learning processes. It is aimed at making education, especially Islamic education, as center and mode for cultivation and development of values, (b) this Islamic education democracy values development model can be made as one of the alternatives in teaching students to develop values, (c) General Education, in program and implementation, aimed to create students to be good individual, society member, citizen, and world citizen. They should be able to communicate and interact well in diverse community. Therefore, values and democracy principles should be inseparable part from program and learning processes that is developed in General Education.
