Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya capaian literasi sains siswa Indonesia berdasarkan hasil PISA beberapa tahun terakhir. Sebagai bagian penting dari literasi sains, nature of science (NOS) dan kemampuan argumentasi diyakini berperan penting dalam mengarahkan siswa mencapai literasi sains. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan pemahaman NOS dan kemampuan argumentasi siswa melalui pembelajaran eksplisit-reflektif berkonteks socio-scientific issues pada tema interaksi makhluk hidup dengan lingkungan. Metode penelitian kuasi eksperimen dengan desain nonequivalent pretest-posttest control-group digunakan pada penelitian ini. Partisipan merupakan siswa kelas 7 pada salah satu SMP di Kota Prabumulih. Partisipan berjumlah 45 siswa yang terbagi menjadi 24 dan 21 siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol berturut-turut yang dipilih menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling. Karena adanya pandemi COVID-19, pembelajaran dalam penelitian ini dilakukan dengan memanfaatkan media daring, yaitu Google Classroom sebagai ruang kelas virtual untuk diskusi forum dan melakukan pre-test dan post-test. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini berupa pertanyaan esai yang digunakan untuk mengukur pemahaman NOS dan level kemampuan argumentasi siswa. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman NOS dan kemampuan argumentasi siswa kedua kelas mengalami peningkatan setelah menerima masing-masing perlakuan. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran eksplisit-reflektif berkonteks socio-scientific issues dapat mengembangkan pemahaman NOS dan kemampuan argumentasi siswa. As an important part of scientific literacy, nature of science (NOS) and argumentation ability are believed to play an important role in directing students to achieve scientific literacy. This research aims to develop students’ NOS understanding and argumentation ability through explicit-reflective learning with socio-scientific issues context on the theme of the interaction of living things with the environment. The quasi-experimental research method with the nonequivalent pretest-posttest control-group design was used in this research. Participants are 7th grade students in one of the junior high schools in Prabumulih City. Participants numbered 45 students who were divided into 24 and 21 students as experimental and control class respectively who were selected using the cluster random sampling technique. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, learning in this study was conducted by utilizing online media i.e. Google classroom as the virtual classroom for forum discussion and carrying out pre-test and post-test. The instrument in this study was an essay questions used to measure students' NOS understanding and level of argumentation ability. The findings of the study showed that students’ understanding of NOS and argumentation ability of the two classes increased after receiving each treatment. This finding shows that explicit-reflective learning with socio-scientific issues context can develop students’ NOS understanding and argumentation ability.
