Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kurangnya kemampuan membaca cerita pendek siswa kelas VIII-D SMPN 7 Kota Bandung. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: (1) kemampuan membaca cerita pendek siswa kelas VIII-D SMPN 7 Kota Bandung sebelum menggunakan model Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA); (2) kemampuan membaca cerita pendek siswa kelas VIII-D SMPN 7 Bandung setelah menggunakan model Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA); dan (3) ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan siswa sebelum dan setelah menggunakan model Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA). Metode yang digunakan adalah studi kuasi eksperimen dengan menggunakan desain penelitian one group pre-test post-test. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah test kepada siswa kelas VIII-D SMPN 7 Kota Bandung tahun ajaran 2019/2020 yang berjumlah 34 siswa. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian didapatkan: (1) kemampuan membaca cerita pendek siswa sebelum menggunakan model Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) tergolong belum tuntas dengan rata-rata nilai 62,2; (2) kemampuan membaca cerita pendek siswa setelah menggunakan model Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) tergolong tuntas dengan rata-rata nilai 82,9; dan (3) berdasarkan hasil uji hipotesis atau uji t, yaitu t_itung (7.648) >t_tabel (2.035) atau nilai signifikansinya Sig.= 0.000<0.05, H_a ditarima atawa H_0 ditolak. Artinya ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan membaca cerita pendek siswa sebelum dan setelah menggunakan model Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian didapatkan kesimpulan bahwa model Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) mampu meningkatkan kemampuan membaca cerita pendek siswa kelas VIII-D SMPN 7 Kota Bandung taun ajar 2019/2020. This research is occured against less of ability to read short story in students grade VIII-D SMPN 7 Kota Bandung. The aim of this research is to describe: (1) Ability to read short story in students grade VIII-D SMPN 7 Kota Bandung before applying Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) model; (2) Ability to read short story in students grade VIII-D SMPN 7 Bandung after applying Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) model; and (3) There is significant difference between the student's ability before and after applying Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) model. The method used in this research is experiment case study with engaging one group pre-test and post-test research design. Gathering data technique used in the research is doing test to students grade VIII-D SMPN 7 KotaBandung year of school 2019/2020, in amount of 34 students. Based on the research result it is gained: (1) student's ability to read short story before applying Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) model is in middle category with average score of 62.2; (2) student's ability to read short story before applying Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) model is in capable category with average score of 82.9; and (3) Based on hypotesis test result or t test, it shows tcount (7.648) > ttable (2.035) or significant score Sig.= 0.000<0.05, H_a is accepted or H_0 is rejected. It means there is significant difference between the student's ability before and after applying Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) model. Based on the research result it can be concluded that Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) model is able to increase ability to read short story in students grade VIII-D SMPN 7 Kota year of school 2019/2020.
