Abstract
Pada abad 21 siswa tidak hanya dituntut memiliki pengetahuan kognitif saja, lebih dari itu siswa dituntut untuk memiliki keterampilan abad 21 yang dimana salah satunya berliterasi informasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan engineering design behaviour siswa dan penguasaan konsep siswa SMP pada pembelajaran fisika berbasis STEM. Penelitian ini melibatkan sampel sebanyak 28 orang siswa kelas VIII di salah satu SMP di Kota Bandung. Pengukuran engineering design behaviour siswa diukur pada saat engineering design process yang dilakukan siswa. Engineering design behaviour siswa diukur dalam sembilan indikator yaitu: understand the challeng, build knowledge, genrete idea, represent idea, conduct eksperiment, weight option and make decision, troubleshoot, revise, reflect on process. Dalam penilaian penulis mengacu pada Matriks Informed Design Learning and Teaching yang dimana siswa akan dikategorikan kedalam empat kategori yaitu: beggining designer, emerged designer, developing designer, dan informed designer. Hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu kategori siswa pada kategori beginning designer menurun dan berubah menjadi kategori yang lebih tinggi. Sedangkan penguasaan konsep siswa pada materi pesawat sederhana diukur menggunakan instrumen pilihan ganda berjumlah 16 butir soal. Peningkatan penguasaan konsep siswa pada materi pesawat sederhana setelah diterapkan pembelajaran IPA berbasis STEM dapat dikatakan sedang dengan nilai n-gain sebesar 0,58. Namun hasil ini sudah menunjukkan nilai yang signifikan secara statistik dengan rata-rata peningkatan skor setiap siswa dari pretest ke posttest adalah sebesar 22,93 poin. Desain pembelajaran IPA berbasis STEM ini masih perlu dioptimalkan terutama pada langkah-langkah atau cara-cara yang dapat ditempuh dalam menanamkan konsep kepada siswa ----- In the 21st century students are not only required to have cognitive knowledge, more than that students are required to have 21st century skills, one of which is information literacy. This study aims to determine the improvement of student engineering design behavior and student's concept of junior high school students in STEM-based physics learning. This study involved a sample of 28 class VIII students at one of the junior high schools in the city of Bandung. Measurement of student engineering design behavior is measured when the engineering design process is carried out by students. Engineering students' behavior design is measured in nine indicators, namely: understand the challenge, build knowledge, genrete ideas, represent ideas, conduct experiments, weight options and make decisions, troubleshoot, revise, reflect on process. In the assessment the author refers to the Informed Design Learning and Teaching Matrix where students will be categorized into four categories: beggining designers, emerging designers, developing designers, and informed designers. The results of this study, namely the category of students in the beginning designer category declined and turned into a higher category. While students' concepts in simple machines material was measured using multiple choice instruments totaling 16 items. Increasing the students' concepts in simple machines material after being applied to STEM-based science learning can be said to be moderate with a n-gain value of 0.58. But these results have shown a statistically significant value with an average increase in the score of each student from pretest to posttest at 22.93 points. The STEM-based science learning design still needs to be optimized especially in the steps or ways that can be taken in instilling the concept with students
