Abstract

Skripsi ini berjudul “Peranan Siti Jenab dalam Mengembangkan Pendidikan Kaum Perempuan di Cianjur Tahun 1906-1950”. Masalah utama yang dibahas dalam skripsi ini yaitu bagaimana peranan Siti Jenab dalam mengembangkan pendidikan kaum perempuan di Cianjur pada tahun 1906 sampai 1950. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji kondisi pendidikan pada awal abad 20 di Cianjur, pemikiran Siti Jenab tentang pendidikan kaum perempuan, upaya yang dilakukan oleh Siti Jenab dalam mengembangkan pendidikan kaum perempuan, serta pengaruh yang ditimbulkan terhadap pendidikan kaum perempuan di Cianjur. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu menggunakan metode historis diantaranya heuristik (pengumpulan sumber) baik lisan maupun tulisan, kritik sumber, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Untuk memperdalam analisis, penulis menggunakan konsep-konsep berpikir seperti peran dan kedudukan perempuan dalam struktur masyarakat Sunda, pendidikan sebagai alat perubahan sosial perempuan pada masa kolonial, serta emansipasi. Teknik penelitian yang digunakan ialah studi literatur dan wawancara. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat dijelaskan bahwa Siti Jenab sangat berperan penting dalam perkembangan pendidikan kaum perempuan di Cianjur. Kondisi pendidikan di Cianjur awal abad ke-20 bersifat diskriminatif terutama bagi kaum perempuan, hal ini menyebabkan kaum perempuan berpeluang kecil untuk mendapatkan pendidikan. Kurangnya pendidikan dan juga keterampilan yang diterima oleh kaum perempuan mengakibatkan maraknya permasalahan-permasalahan sosial seperti pergundikan, perdagangan perempuan, pelacuran dan lain sebagainya. Melihat kondisi tersebut Siti Jenab berinisiatif untuk merubah keadaan kaumnya melalui pendidikan, maka Siti Jenab membuka dan mengembangkan sekolah khusus perempuan di Cianjur dengan nama Sakola Istri. Adanya sekolah tersebut dapat mengurangi permasalahan-permasalahan sosial yang terjadi dan terbukanya pendidikan bagi kaum perempuan di Cianjur. Kata Kunci: Peranan, Siti Jenab, Sakola Istri, Pendidikan Perempuan. This thesis is entitled "The Role of Siti Jenab in Developing Women's Education in Cianjur in 1906-1950". The main problem discussed in this thesis is how the role of Siti Jenab in developing women's education in Cianjur in 1906 to 1950. This study aims to examine the condition of education in the early 20th century in Cianjur, Siti Jenab thoughts about women's education, efforts made by Siti Jenab in developing women's education, as well as the influence it has had on women's education in Cianjur. The research method used is to use historical methods including heuristics (collection of sources) both oral and written, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. To deepen the analysis, the authors use concepts of thinking such as the role and position of women in the structure of Sundanese society, education as a tool for women's social change in the colonial period, and emancipation. The research technique used is the study of literature and interviews. Based on the results of the study it can be explained that Siti Jenab played an important role in the development of women's education in Cianjur. The condition of education in Cianjur in the early 20th century was discriminatory, especially for women, this caused women with little chance of getting an education. Lack of education and skills received by women have led to widespread social problems such as concubinage, trafficking in women, prostitution and so on. Seeing these conditions, Siti Jenab took the initiative to change the situation of her people through education, so Siti Jenab opened and developed a special school for women in Cianjur called Sakola Istri. The existence of these schools can reduce the social problems that occur and open education for women in Cianjur. Keywords: Role, Siti Jenab, Sakola Istri, Woman Education
