Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus pada makna representasi dan ideologi yang terdapat dalam 11 artikel di media massa online Jepang The Asahi Shimbun yang terbit pada tahun 2017 dan 2018. Analisis Wacana Kritis model Teun. A. van Dijk digunakan untuk mengupas bagaimana isu-isu tentang Islam direpresentasikan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa The Asahi shimbun merepresentasikan Islam secara positif sebanyak 37 kalimat (24.5%), secara netral sebanyak 31 kalimat (20.5%) dan secara negatif sebanyak 83 kalimat (55%). Secara ideologi, terlihat upaya The Asahi shimbun untuk memberitakan isu-isu yang berkaitan dengan Islam secara netral. Selain itu juga ditemukan keyakinan Islam yang tertulis dalam pemberitaan The Asahi Shimbun yang mencakup konsep penolakan terhadap LGBT, syahadat, wudu, qiblat, makanan halal, gaya hidup islami, kriteria pemimpin, pengertian hadist, pesantren, gaya berpakaian, salafisme, puasa, ramadan, dan ajaran islam yang ‘tidak membeda-bedakan manusia’.;--This study aims to reveal the representation of Islam and the ideology contained in 11 articles in the Japanese online mass media, The Asahi Shimbun, which were published in 2017 and 2018. Using the critical discourse analysis framework of Van Dijk, this study analyses the way Islamic issues are represented in the media. The results found that The Asahi Shimbun represented Islam positively by 37 sentences (24.5%), neutrally by 31 sentences (20.5%) and negatively by 83 sentences (55%). While ideologically, it can be seen that The Asahi Shimbun tries to be neutral in representing Islamic issues. In addition, Islamic beliefs were also found in the coverage of The Asahi Shimbun which included the concept of rejection of LGBT, syahadat (the creed of Islam), ablution, qiblat, halal food, Islamic lifestyle, leader criteria, understanding of hadith, pesantren, dress style, salafism, fasting, ramadan, and Islamic teachings, which 'does not discriminate against humans'.
