Abstract

Krisis kemandirian petani di Desa Banjarjo disebabkan minimnya pengetahuan petani tentang cara mengelola pertanian. Hal itu membutuhkan upaya penyuluhan yang dikelola penyuluh sebagai pihak yang bertanggungjawab atas keberhasilan program. Oleh karena itu, dilakukan penelitian yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran penyuluh terhadap kemandirian petani. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif yang dilakukan dengan metode survey dan path analysis. Adapun hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan pengaruh tinggi antara peran penyuluh sebagai inovator, komunikator, organisator, dan penghubung antar sistem terhadap kemandirian petani. Sebagai organisator, penyuluh berperan memfasilitasi petani dalam memperoleh akses pendidikan berupa penyuluhan untuk meningkatkan kemandiriannya. Namun, peran sebagai organisator tidak sepenuhnya berjalan dengan baik sehingga tidak berpengaruh terhadap kemandirian petani. Di sisi lain penyuluh menjalankan tanggung jawabnya secara optimal sebagai inovator. Peran sebagai inovator adalah membawa perubahan melalui informasi-informasi baru yang disampaikan kepada petani. Peran sebagai inovator berpengaruh dalam meningkatkan pemahaman petani selama mengelola pertaniannya. Hal tersebut didukung dengan peran sebagai komunikator dalam memastikan transfer informasi melalui tatap muka maupun media komunikasi. Namun, jika peran sebagai komunikator berdiri sendiri, maka tidak berpengaruh terhadap kemandirian petani. Hal ini berbanding terbalik dengan peran sebagai penghubung antar sistem. Meski penyuluh tidak optimal dalam melakukan penguatan dan menjembatani petani dengan ahli pertanian lain yang dibutuhkan, namun peran sebagai penghubung antar sistem berpengaruh terhadap kemandirian petani.;-- The crisis of farmers’ independence in Banjarjo was caused by their lack of knowledge agriculture management. This situation demands an effort in the form of extension managed by the extensionist holding responsibility for the program success. Therefore, a study aiming at discovering the role of extensionist as an innovator, communicator, organizer, and inter-systems connector on the farmers’s independence was conducted. To arrive at the aim of this study, a quantitative descriptive research design was accomplished through survey method and path analysis. This research design revealed that the role extensioninst had highly influenced the farmers’ independence. As an organizer, extension facilitator facilitates farmers to access education in the form of counseling to improve their independence. However, the role as an organizer did not run well so that it did not affect the farmers’ independence. On the other side, the extensionists performed their responsibilities optimally as an innovator. The role as an innovator was to bring changes through new information delivered to farmers. The role as innovators had an effect on improving farmers' understanding and managing their farms. This was supported by the role of extension as a communicator in ensuring the transfer of information through face to face or communication media. However, if the role as a communicator stands alone, it does not influence farmers’ independence. This phenomenon contradicts the role as an inter-system connector. Although extensionists did not optimally strengthen and bridging farmers with other agricultural experts needed, the role as an inter-systems connector had influenced the farmers’ independence.
