Abstract
Kontes kecantikan dinilai sebagai ajang yang mendorong perempuan untuk tampil percaya diri di hadapan publik. Salah satu kegiatan yang sering dilakukannya yakni public speaking. Namun, public speaking sering kali menimbulkan kecemasan banyak individu. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yakni untuk menganalis hubungan antara konsep diri dengan public speaking anxiety pada peserta kontes kecantikan Pemilihan Puteri Indonesia 2017 dan menemukan jenis atau arah hubungannya tersebut. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan metode korelasional. Subjek dalam penelitian ini merupakan peserta Pemilihan Puteri Indonesia 2017 yang berjumlah 38 orang. Skala konsep diri terdiri dari 38 item dengan koefisien realibitas 0,845 dan skala public speaking anxiety terdiri dari 34 item yang dibuat oleh McCroskey (1970) dalam The Personal Report of Public Speaking Anxiety (PRPSA). Hasil yang ditemukan yakni terdapat hubungan negatif antara konsep diri dengan public speaking anxiety dengan nilai r = -0,453, p 0,004<0,005 yang artinya bahwa semakin tinggi konsep diri peserta maka semakin rendah tingkat public speaking anxiety, begitupun sebaliknya. Mayoritas responden memiliki tingkat konsep diri sedang dan tingkat PSA yang rendah. Nilai koefisien determinasi sebesar 0,205 memiliki arti bahwa konsep diri memberi pengaruh sebesar 20,5% terhadap public speaking anxiety. 79,5% pengaruh terhadap public speakng anxiety disebabkan oleh faktor lain.;---The Beauty Pageants is considered as an event that encourages women to show off their confidence in public. One of the activities that they often do is public speaking. However, public speaking often causes the the anxiety of many individuals. The purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between self-concept and public speaking anxiety in 2017 Puteri Indonesia Beauty Pageant contestants and find the type or direction of the relationship. The research approach used in this research is quantitative with the correlational method. The subjects in this research are the contestants of the 2017 Puteri Indonesia Beauty Pageants which amounted to 38 respondents. The Self-Concept scale consists of 38 items with a reliability coefficient of 0,845 and the public speaking anxiety scale consists of 34 items which created by McCroskey (1970) in his The Personal Report of Public Speaking Anxiety. Based on the results of the analysis found that there is a negative relationship between self-concept and public speaking anxiety with a value of r = -0,453, p 0,004<0,005 which means the higher contestants’ self-concept, then their public speaking anxiety level becomes lower. The majority of respondents have moderate self-concept and low PSA level. Value of determination coefficients was 0,205 which means that the self-concept gives influence by 20,5% against the anxiety of public speaking. 79,5% influence in the public speaking anxiety can be caused by other factors.
