Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan tradisi sunatan, struktur tradisi sunatan, unsur semiotik dalam tradisi sunatan, dan hasil penelitian tradisi sunatan dalam pembelajaran membaca artikel di SMA. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan dan olah data yang digunakan adalah teknik observasi, studi pustaka, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah kamera, handphone, dan pedoman wawancara. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut. Pertama, latar belakang adanya tradisi sunatan yang bermula dari sistem kepercayaan masyarakat serta memiliki fungsi spiritual dan fungsi sosial-budaya. Kedua, struktur tradisi sunatan meliputi unsur-unsur tradisi sunatan dan prosesi tradisi sunatan. Unsur-unsur tradisi sunatan terdiri atas waktu pelaksanaan tradisi, tempat pelaksanaan tradisi, pihak yang terlibat dalam tradisi, barang-barang, dan alat-alat yang terdapat dalam tradisi. Prosesi tradisi sunatan terdiri atas beberapa tahapan, yaitu ngahudangkeun budak dina waktu subuh, prosés nyunatan ku béngkong, sawér, nyecep, jeung numpak sisingaan. Ketiga, unsur semiotik yang ada dalam tradisi sunatan terdiri atas enam ikon, delapan indeks, dan empat puluh simbol. Keempat, hasil penelitian tradisi sunatan dalam bentuk artikel dapat dijadikan salah satu alternatif bahan ajar dalam pembelajaran membaca artikel di SMA. Selain itu, nilai-nilai yang terkandung dalam tradisi ini dapat dijadikan sebagai pedoman dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. The aim of this study is to describe the developments, structures, semiotic elements, and the application of circumcision study towards article reading session in senior high school. The method which is used in this study is qualitative method with descriptive approach. The techniques of collecting and processing the data include observation, literature review, interview, and documentation. The research intruments of this study are a camera, smartphone, and interview guidlines. The results of this study are listed asa follows. First, circumcision which was originated from local people’s belief has spiritual and socio-culture purposes. Second, circumcision has two structures: the elements and process of circumcision. The elements of circumcision consist of time, place, involved parties, stuffs, and tools which are usually used in this custom. The process of circumcision consists of five stages: waking up the boy at the dawn, the process of circumcision whoch is done by aprofessional circumciser, sawer (a pray for the circumcised boy), nyecep (a tradition of giving money to the circumcised boy), and riding dummy lion. Third, semiotic elements in circumcision consist of six icons, eight indexes, and forty symbols. Fourth, the result of circumcision study in the form of an article can be used as an alternative learning material in article reading session in senior high school. Besides, the values which are included in this custom can be used as a guidance in daily life.
