REPRESENTATION OF THE INDONESIAN TAX AMNESTY PROGRAM IN THE JAKARTA POST ONLINE ARTICLES: A MACROSTRUCTURE ANALYSIS

    Abstract

    The present research seeks to examine the representation of the Indonesian Tax Amnesty Program in the Jakarta Post online news articles in terms of macrostructure analysis as well as unveil the underlying ideology of the Jakarta Post with regard to the issue. This research employs a qualitative method by relying on the sociocognitive approach to Critical Discourse Analysis (van Dijk, 2009) to conduct the semantic macrostructure analysis and interpret the results. The data used in this research include ten articles from the Jakarta Post. Through the application of macrorules analysis, there are ten macropropositions derived from the selected articles. The macropropositions are, then, analysed to further examine the representation. It is revealed that the Indonesian Tax Amnesty Program is mostly represented positively in the Jakarta Post. Out of the ten macropropositions, 80% indicate positive representation and 20% indicate neutral representation of the issue. No negative representation is found. Furthermore, it is found that in terms of ideology, the Jakarta Post tends to adhere to capitalism.----------Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi Program Amnesti Pajak Indonesia dalam artikel berita online yang dipublikasikan oleh koran the Jakarta Post berdasarkan analisis struktur makro. Selain itu, penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk menemukan ideologi koran the Jakarta Post terkait dengan isu amnesti pajak. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif yang direalisasikan melalui pendekatan sosiokognitif (van Dijk, 2009) terhadap analisis wacana kritis. Pendekatan sosiokognitif diaplikasikan sebagai landasan untuk melakukan analisis struktur makro semantik dan untuk menginterpretasikan data hasil penelitian. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini mencangkup 10 artikel berita dari koran the Jakarta Post. Melalui pengaplikasian aturan makro (macrorules), terdapat 10 makropoposisi yang diperoleh dari 10 artikel. Kesepuluh makroproposisi tersebut dianalisis lebih jauh untuk meneliti representasi. Hasil analisis kemudian menunjukkan bahwa Program Amnesti Pajak Indonesia sebagian besar direpresentasikan secara positif oleh koran the Jakarta Post. Secara rinci, dari sepuluh makroproposisi, 80% mengindikasikan representasi positif and 20% mengisyaratkan representasi netral. Dengan kata lain, tidak ditemukan representasi negatif dalam artikel berita yang diteliti. Lebih jauh, berdasarkan hasil analisis, dapat disimpulkan bahwa koran the Jakarta Post cenderung memiliki ideologi kapitalisme.
