Abstract

Representasi mental (RM) terbentuk dari persepsi seseorang saat berinteraksi dengan objek informasi seperti gambar. Salah satu bentuk kebiasaan interaksi dengan objek informasi dikenal sebagai gaya belajar, yaitu cara terbaik siswa dalam menerima dan memproses informasi serta dalam membangun persepsi. Jenis gaya belajar yang dikemukakan oleh Fleming dan Baume (2006) terdiri dari visual (V), aural (A), read/write (R), dan kinesthetic (K). Dalam rangka membangun RM yang terbaik, gaya belajar tersebut dapat difasilitasi melalui pendekatan VARK. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi representasi mental siswa berdasarkan gaya belajar dalam membaca gambar setelah pembelajaran sistem pertahanan tubuh dengan pendekatan VARK. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah quasi experiment dengan desain posttest only with nonequivalent group. Partisipan yang terlibat berjumlah 60 orang siswa kelas 11 MIA salah satu SMA Negeri di Kota Bandung. Partisipan terbagi ke dalam dua kelas, yaitu kelas tanpa pendekatan VARK dengan jumlah siswa sebanyak 29 orang dan kelas dengan pendekatan VARK dengan jumlah siswa sebanyak 31 orang. Data gaya belajar siswa dijaring menggunakan The VARK Questionnare-The Younger Version 7.1 yang telah dimodifikasi. Data RM diukur menggunakan metode CNET (Causal Network Elicitation Technique) dari Arentze et al. (2008) yang telah dimodifikasi oleh Rahmat et al. (2016). Hasil menunjukkan adanya perbedaan RM siswa antara kelas tanpa dan kelas dengan pendekatan VARK, baik dilihat dari skor yang diperoleh maupun pola-pola RM yang ditemukan. Skor dan pola RM terbaik diperoleh pada kelas dengan pendekatan VARK pada preferensi gaya belajar aural dan kinestetik. Kata kunci: representasi mental, kecenderungan gaya belajar, pendekatan VARK, gambar sistem pertahanan tubuh ;--- Mental Representation (RM) has been formed from individual perception when interact with object of information alike picture. One form of habits interact with object of information is known as learning styles, there is the best modes in accepting and processing information also constructing perception. Types of learning styles were developed by Fleming and Baume (2006) consists of visual (V), aural (A), read/write (R), and kinesthetic (K). In order to construct the best RM, the learning styles could be facilitated by VARK approach. This study aims to identify student’s mental representation based on learning style in reading picture after learning of immune system with VARK approach. This study method was quasi experiment research using posttest only with nonequivalent group design. Partisipant involved in this study was total 60 students of 11th science classes, one of senior high school in Bandung. Participant was divided to two classes, there was class without VARK approach consists of 29 students and class with VARK approach consists of 31 students. The learning styles data was obtained using The VARK Questionnare-The Younger Version 7.1 which was modified. The RM data was measured by CNET (Causal Network Elicitation Technique) methode from Arentze et al. (2008) which was modified by Rahmat et al. (2016). The result showed the difference of student’s RM between class without and with VARK approach, whether score was gained or patterns of RM were founded. The best score and pattern of RM was gained by class with VARK approach on aural and kinesthetic learning styles preferences.
