Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara need to belong (NTB) dengan homesickness pada pada mahasiswa rantau tahun pertama di Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Desain penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan metode korelasional dengan teknik analisis Spearman's Rho. Penentuan sampel menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dengan jumlah 156 mahasiswa tahun pertama yang berasal dari luar pulau Jawa dan berkuliah di Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Instrumen pada penelitian ini adalah Need to Belong Scale (NTBS) dan Homesickness Quistionnaire (HQ). Hasil yang diperoleh adalah terdapat hubungan positif yang signifikan antara need to belong dan homesickness pada mahasiswa rantau tahun pertama yang berasal dari luar pulau jawa di Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia dengan nilai korelasi sebesar 0,713 yang berada pada tingkat korelasi kuat. Artinya, semakin tinggi need to belong yang dimiliki mahasiswa makan makin tinggi pula homesickness yang dirasakannya. Begitupun sebaliknya, semakin rendah tingkat need to belong yang dimiliki seorang mahasiswa, maka homesickness yang dirasakan akan rendah pula.----------This research was aimed to examine relationship between need to belong and homesickness of first year students in Indonesian University of Education. The approach used in this research is quantitative approach with Spearman’s Rho Correlation. The determination of sample in this research used a purposive sampling technique with 156 first year students of Indonesian University of Education from all over Indonesia except from Java Island as samples. The instrument in this research are Need to Belong Scale (NTBS) and Homesickness Quistionnaire (HQ). The result showed was sgnificant positive correlation between need to belong and homesickness the students were having with correlation index of 0,713 which means a strong correlation level. In other words, there is a strong tendency; more need to belong on students then the homesickness level felt by them will be high, vice versa.
