    Abstract

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan model mental siswa pada submateri sel volta dengan menggunakan tes diagnostik model mental prediksi-observasi-eksplanasi (TDM-POE). Profil model mental tersebut menggambarkan pemahaman siswa pada setiap level representasi kimia yaitu level makroskopik, submikroskopik, dan simbolik yang dapat dijadikan sebagai salah satu acuan guru dalam mengembangkan strategi pembelajaran yang sesuai. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan instrumen tes diagnostik model mental Prediksi-Observasi-Eksplanasi (TDM-POE). Instrumen telah divalidasi oleh 5 orang validator yang terdiri dari 4 orang dosen di Jurusan Pendidikan Kimia dan 1 orang guru kimia di sekolah. Subjek penelitian yaitu siswa SMA kelas XII yang telah mempelajari submateri sel volta sebanyak 34 orang di SMAN 3 Bandung. Adapun profil model mental yang ditemukan yaitu (1) pada konsep konstruksi sel volta sebagian besar siswa (32,35%) mampu memahami konstruksi pada level makroskopik dan simbolik disertai penjelasan pada level submikroskopik yang kurang tepat, (2) pada konsep menghitung nilai potensial sel standar, sebanyak 44,12% siswa mampu mengamati (makroskopik) dan menghitung (simbolik) nilai potensial sel standar tersebut disertai penjelasan pada level submikroskopik yang kurang tepat, (3) sebagian besar siswa (32,35%) kurang tepat dalam menjelaskan sel volta dalam baterai alkaline pada level makroskopik dan submikroskopik disertai penulisan pada level simbolik yang tepat, dan (4) pada konsep korosi, sebagian besar siswa (35,29%) mampu menjelaskan fenomena pada level makroskopik dan simbolik disertai penjelasan pada level submikroskopik yang kurang tepat.;---The aim of this research was to explore students' mental models in sub matter of voltaic cell using a prediction-observation-explanation mental models diagnostic test (TDM-POE). The profile of mental models describe students’ understanding at every level of chemical representation, that is macroscopic level, submicroscopic and symbolic that can be used as a reference for teachers in developing learning strategies. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative method using a instruments of Prediction-Observation-Explanation (TDM-POE) mental models diagnostic test. Instrument had validated by 5 validator that consist of 4 lecturer at Chemistry Departemen and 1 teacher in school. Subject of this research is students of high school who have studied a sub matter of voltaic cells as many as 34 people in SMAN 3 Bandung. The mental model profiles were found: (1) on the construction voltaic cells concept, most of students (32.35%) were able to understand the construction at macroscopic level and symbolic with an explanation on the submicroscopic level is parsial correct, (2) on the concept of calculating the value of the standard cell potential, 44.12% of students were able to observe (macroscopic) and counting (symbolic) value of the standard cell potential with an explanation on the submicroscopic level is parsial correct, (3) the majority of students (32.35%) are parsial correct in explaining voltaic cells in alkaline batteries on macroscopic and submicroscopic level with writing on a symbolic level, and (4) the concept of corrosion, the majority of students (35.29%) were able to explain the phenomenon at the macroscopic level and symbolic with an explanation on the submicroscopic level is parsial correct.
