Abstract

Skripsi ini berjudul Dari Naturalis Sampai Ekspresionis: Perbandingan Pemikiran Seni Lukis Basoeki Abdullah dan Sindudarsono Sudjojono (1938-1985). Latar belakang penelitian ini muncul karena kurangnya kajian ilmiah dalam bidang sejarah seni lukis modern Indonesia yang jejaknya dapat ditelusuri semenjak masa kolonialisme asing di Indonesia. Masalah utama yang dibahas adalah ‘apa perbedaan pemikiran seni lukis Basoeki Abdullah dan S. Sudjojono?’. Masalah yang muncul kemudian diuraikan ke dalam beberapa pertanyaan penelitian di antaranya perkembangan seni lukis pada masyarakat Hindia-Belanda awal abad ke-20, latar belakang, pemikiran dan perbandingan pemikiran Basoeki Abdullah dan S. Sudjojono tentang seni lukis modern Indonesia serta perbedaan tema dan ciri khas lukisan keduanya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode historis yang merupakan metode penelitian untuk mengkaji peristiwa manusia di masa lampau. Metode historis terbagi dalam empat tahap, yaitu heuristik, kritik, interpretasi dan historiografi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, pada awal abad ke-20 masyarakat Indonesia di tiap daerah mengembangkan kesenian lukisnya baik yang bersifat tradisional maupun masih primitif. Masuknya seni lukis modern Barat ke Hindia-Belanda kemudian memunculkan para pelukis modern Indonesia dari kalangan elite terpelajar, di antaranya Basoeki Abdullah dan S. Sudjojono. Basoeki Abdullah cenderung melukis dengan gaya naturalis yang halus, presisi dan elitis. Sedangkan S. Sudjojono cenderung ekspresionis yang kasar, berat dan kerakyatan. Dalam masa pergerakan nasional, keduanya terlibat perbedaan pendapat mengenai bagaimana bentuk seni lukis modern Indonesia yang seharusnya. Basoeki Abdullah meneruskan gaya melukis Barat atau Mooi-Indie yang cenderung menganut seni untuk seni. Sedangkan S. Sudjojono menentang gaya melukis Barat dengan pencarian corak ke-Indonesia-an dan cenderung menggunakan seni sebagai alat perjuangan. Setelah kemerdekaan, pemikiran keduanya turut memengaruhi sikap kesenian para pelukis generasi selanjutnya. Hingga mengakibatkan polemik kebudayaan dalam bidang seni lukis yang mempersoalkan kebudayaan Barat dengan Timur dan kedudukan seni dalam kehidupan masyarakat bernegara sampai dekade 1970-an.;---This undergraduate thesis titled From Naturalis Until Expressionists: Comparison of Thought Art Basoeki Abdullah and Sindudarsono Sudjojono (1938-1985). The background of this study appear due to the lack of scientific studies in the field of the history of modern painting Indonesia that can be traced from the time of the foreign colonialism in Indonesia. The main issue discussed was 'what a difference a painting thought Basoeki Abdullah and S. Sudjojono?'. The problem is then decomposed into several research questions of which the development of painting in the Dutch East Indies society early 20th century, backgrounds, ideas and thoughts comparison Basoeki Abdullah and S. Sudjojono of modern Indonesian painting as well as differences in themes and characteristics painting both. The method used in this research is the historical method which is a method of research to study human events in the past. The historical method is divided into four stages, namely heuristic, criticism, interpretation and historiography. Based on the results of the study, at the beginning of the 20th century Indonesian community in each region to develop the art of painting both traditional and primitive. The influx of modern Western painting to the Dutch East Indies then led the Indonesian modern painter of the educated elite, among Basoeki Abdullah and S. Sudjojono. Basoeki Abdullah tend to paint with subtle naturalistic style, precision and elitist. While S. Sudjojono tend expressionist rough, heavy and populist. In times of national movement, both are involved differences of opinion on how to shape the modern Indonesian painting should be. Basoeki Abdullah Western painting style or forward-Mooi Indie tended toward art for art. While S. Sudjojono against Western painting style with the search pattern to the Indonesian-ness and tend to use art as a tool of struggle. After independence, thought both also affect the attitude of the painters art next generation. To result in cultural polemics in the field of painting that questioned the Eastern and Western culture with the position of art in public life of the state until the 1970s.
