Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh permasalahan yang ditemukan peneliti pada saat observasi awal di kelas VII G SMP Negeri 3 Lembang. Berdasarkan hasil observasi, peneliti menemukan permasalahan berupa rendahnya karakter peduli sosial peserta didik dalam pembelajaran IPS. Hal ini ditunjukan dengan beberapa indikator permasalahan diantaranya sikap siswa yang kurang berempati terhadap temanya yang ditunjukan dengan sikap acuh terhadap teman yang sakit, kebiasaan siswa yang memilih teman kelompok berdasarkan kedekatan dalam grup tertentu, jika kelompok dibentuk bukan berdasarkan minat siswa maka siswa tidak dapat bekerja sama dengan baik, kemudian rendahnya toleransi siswa yang terlihat dari seringnya terjadi kegaduhan yang disebabkan sulitnya siswa menerima perbedaan pendapat siswa lain yang selanjutnya terjadi bully terhadap teman dengan cara mengejek dan menertawakan. Alternatif pemecahan masalah yang menjadi pilihan peneliti yaitu dengan menerapkan metode bercerita, dimana guru bercerita untuk menumbuhkan karakter peduli sosial siswa dengan cara meneladani kisah yang ada dalam bercerita. Meninjau permasalahan yang akan diteliti berkaitan dengan proses pembelajaran, maka peneliti memilih Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan model Kemmis Mc.Taggart yang dilakukan dalam 4 siklus. Peningkatan karakter peduli sosial peserta didik di kelas VII G SMP Negeri 3 Lembang melalui metode bercerita dapat dikatakan berhasil. Berhasilnya penelitian ini dapat dilihat dari adanya peningkatan kualitas dan kuantitas karakter peduli sosial peserta didik yang ditunjukan melalui perkembangan aspek-aspek atau indikator peduli sosial yaitu siswa mampu memperhatikan guru ketika berbicara di depan kelas, siswa mampu menerima nilai-nilai yang terkandung dalam bercerita, siswa mampu menerima orang lain sebagai anggota kelompok, siswa mampu menghargai pendapat siswa lain dan tidak melakukan bully, mampu bekerja sama dengan baik dan membuat slogan bertemakan peduli sosial. Berdasarkan data hasil penelitian dilapangan dapat ditarik kesimpulan dari penelitian ini, antara lain pertama, perencanaan penelitian dirancang dengan baik. Kedua, peningkatan karakter peduli sosial melalui metode bercerita dilaksanakan semakin terarah pada setiap siklusnya. Ketiga, merefleksikan kendala yang ditemukan pada setiap siklus serta mengatasi kendala tersebut pada siklus selanjutnya. Keempat, setelah diterapkanya metode bercerita dapat menumbuhkan minat siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS sehingga penelitian untuk meningkatkan karakter peduli sosial berjalan dengan baik.;This research is motivated by the problems that researcher found at the time of preliminary observation in class VII G of SMP Negeri 3 Lembang. Based on the observation, researcher found problems such as lack of learners’ social-care character in learning Social Studies. This is evidenced by several problem indicators including the attitude of students who lack of empathy towards their friend, this was shown by their indifference towards a sick friend; students’ habit of choosing group members based on the proximity in a particular group, if the group was not formed based on the students’ interests, the students can not cooperate well with each other; then the students’ low tolerance, as shown by the frequent occurrence of noise in the classroom, due to the students’ difficulty in accepting other students’ different opinion, that ensued bullying between friends by mocking and laughing. The alternative solution to the problem chose by the researcher is to apply the story-telling method, in which the teacher tells a story to arise students’ social-care character by emulating the good parts in the story. Considering the problem to be studied is related to learning process, the researcher chose a Classroom Action Research with Kemmis Mc. Taggart model which is done in four cycles. The improvement of students’ social-care character in class VII G of SMP Negeri 3 Lembang through story-telling method was considered successful. This can be seen from the increase in the quality and quantity of students’ social-care character demonstrated through the development of social-care aspects or indicators that students are able to pay attention when the teacher is speaking in front of the class, students are able to accept the values contained in the story, students are able to accept others as their group members, students are able to respect other students’ opinions and do not bully other students, and students are able to work well and make the slogan social-care themed. Based on the data collected from the research, it can be deduced that, firstly, the research planning was well-designed. Secondly, the increase in students’ social-care character through the story-telling method was implemented increasingly focused on each cycle. Thirdly, reflecting the constraints found in every cycle and overcome them in the next cycle. Fourthly, the implementation of story-telling method could grow students’ interest in learning Social Studies, thus the research of enhancing students’ social-care character is successful.
