Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh asumsi bahwa ungkapan tradisional Sunda mengandung nilai-nilai kearifan lokal yang perlu dikaji secara ilmiah. Kearifan lokal tersebut diharapkan dapat membantu dalam membentuk karakter bangsa yang menjadi sorotan berbagai pihak saat ini. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengidentifikasi ungkapan tradisional Sunda yang digunakan dalam keseharian oleh partisipan penelitian, mendeskripsikan makna uangkapan tersebut dengan menggunakan teori signifikasi Barthes, dan mengklasifikasikannya berdasarkan tujuan dan fungsi ungkapan tersebut di dalam masyarakat. Metode etnografi digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Data dikumpulkan dengan teknik observasi dan wawancara. Sumber data adalah key actors dari masyarakat adat Cireundeu yang terdiri atas tokoh-tokoh masyarakat dan beberapa generasi muda. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan 86 ungkapan tradisional Sunda yang terdiri atas kekecapan, babasan, paribasa, cacandran, dan uga. Proses signifikasi menemukan bahwa ungkapan-ungkapan tersebut mengandung mitos yang memengaruhi konsepsi dan aktifitas yang membangun kehidupan sosial partisipan penelitian, diantaranya, membangun cara pandang masyarakat terhadap sesuatu, membentuk karakter masyarakat, pedoman hidup bermasyarakat, dll. Mitos yang terbentuk dari ungkapan-ungkapan tersebut mengandung nilai-nilai kearifan lokal yang bertujuan untuk menciptakan kedamaian dan kesejahteraan masyarakat penuturnya. Kata kunci: Etnografi, Mitos, Kearifan lokal, Ungkapan Tradisional Sunda, Masyarakat Adat The background of the research is the thought of Sundanese traditional expressions that emerge along with its local values to build national characters which has been the center of attention of many parties today. The aims of the research are to identify Sundanese traditional expression spoken by the participants of the research in their daily life, to describe the meaning of each of those expressions by utilizing orders of significations theory initiated by Barthes, and to classify those expressions based on their functions in the social life. The research utilizes ethnographic method while the data of the research are obtained through observation and interview. The sources of the data are key actors from the participants of the research which consist of local figures and several young generations. The result of the research found 86 Sundanese traditional expressions which consist of kekecapan, babasan, paribasa, cacandran, and uga. Signification process shows that myths sit on those expressions and influence the participants’ conceptions and activities as well in building their social lives, among others are to build their way of thinking towards something, to build social characters, to be social lives guidance, etc. The myths formed from those expressions prove to have local values to build the peacefulness and welfare of the local residents.
