Abstract
Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah permasalahan yang terjadi di kelas VII C SMPN 2 Lembang yaitu rendahnya kemandirian belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS. Hal tersebut disebabkan karena kurang melibatkan siswa serta kurangnya minat siswa pada pembelajaran IPS. berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut maka perlu dilakukan perbaikan yang membuat siswa dapat terlibat langsung sehingga siswa dapat belajar secara mandiri pada pembelajaran IPS. Sehingga peneliti memilih Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan desain penelitian model Kemmis & Taggart (1988) yang terdiri dari perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Penerapan model discovery learning dalam menngkatkan kemandirianbelajar siswa dapat dikatakan berhasil setelah melalui tiga siklus. Berhasilnya penelitian ini dilihat dari adanya peningkatan kemandirian belajar siswa yang ditunjukkan melalui perkembangan aspek atau beberapa indikator dari kepercayaan diri siswa, disiplin, inisiatif, tanggung jawab serta bagaimana siswa dapat menghargai waktu. Seluruh aspek dari indikator tersebut mengalami peningkatan dari siklus 1 memperoleh predikat “Cukup”, Kemudian siklus kedua mengalami peningkatan menjadi predikat “Baik”, dan siklus ketiga mengalami peningkatan yang termasuk kedalam predikat “Baik”. Pada penelitian ini kendala yang dirasakan yaitu sulitnya mengatur alokasi waktu dengan langkah pembelajaran yang banyak, sulitnya mendisiplinkan siswa pada saat kegiatan observasi dilapangan. Hasil penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran Discovery Learning sangat efektif untuk meningkatkan kemandirian belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS.----------The background of the research was a problem happened in VII C class of SMPN 2 Lembang, which was the lack of students’ independence in social sciences learning. It was caused by the lack of students’ engagement and students’ interest on social sciences subject. Based on the problem, the improvement in social sciences learning which engage the students directly is necessary, so that the students can learn independently in social sciences learning. Kemmis & Taggart model (1988) of classroom action research was chosen as the design of the research. It involved planning, acting, observing, and reflecting which were done in three cycles. The implementation can be said successful after three cycles. The successful of the research can be seen from the enhancement of students’ learning independence through the growth aspect or some indicators of students’ self-reliant, discipline, initiative, and responsibility as well as how the students esteeming time. All the aspects of those indicators have enhanced from “Enough” citation in the first cycle. Then, the second cycle have enhanced to a “Good” citation and the third cycle have enhanced to a “Good” citation as well. During the research, the most felt constrain was the arrangement of time allocation and a lot of learning steps, as well as disciplining students during the observation at the field. The research found that the implementation of discovery learning model is effective to enhance the students’ learning independence in social sciences learning.
