Abstract
Faktor yang melatarbelakangi penelitian ini adalah bahwa terdapat anak yang mengalami kesulitan untuk berkomunikasi. Hambatan komunikasi yang dialami oleh subyek dibuktikan dengan melihat pemerolehan bahasa anak dengan usia yang telah 15 tahun namun belum bisa berkomunikasi verbal sebagaimana anak dengan usia tersebut, anak seharusnya sudah pada tahapan kompetensi penuh dan produktivitas bahasa secara memadai, sehingga dalam kehidupan sehari-hari anak tersebut banyak memerlukan bantuan dari orang lain untuk melakukan berbagai kegiatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan media alternative and augmentative communication, sebagai upaya mengembangkan keterampilan komunikasi anak dengan hambatan komunikasi. Pendekatan yang digunakan yaitu dengan Exploratory Mixed Method Research Design. Desain ini dipilih karena peneliti harus menangani dua jenis data yaitu kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Data kualitatif berupa data deskriptif yang menghasilkan pengembangan media alternative and augmentative communication; sedangkan data kuantitatif adalah berupa hasil pengukuran keefektifan media alternative and augmentative communication yang dirumuskan berdasarkan data-data kualitatif tersebut. Hasil temuan dilapangan menunjukkan bahwa; 1) hasil pengembangan alternative and augmentative communication menghasilkan papan komunikasi, buku komunikasi, foto-foto tentang barang yang dikenal anak prosedur pelaksanaan media komunikasi. 2) media alternative and augmentative communication yang telah dikembangkan memberikan pengaruh pada pengembangan keterampilan komunikasi anak, yang tadinya anak tidak bisa berkomunikasi tetapi dengan bantuan media ini anak dapa berkembang keterampilan komunikasinya. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian, peneliti merekomendasikan 1) penggunaan media alternative and augmentative communication, memerlukan berbagai tahapan asesmen seperti melalui observasi, wawancara, dan lain sebagainya, dimana hal tersebut memerlukan waktu yang relatif panjang oleh karenanya diharapkan pihak yang ingin mengembangkan media alternative and augmentative ini harus konsisten dalam melakukan tahapan tersebut. 2) Bagi pihak yang ingin menerapkan media alternative and augmentative communication ini harus memperhatikan beberapa hal yaitu harus mengetahui terlebih dahulu tentang kondisi anak, mengetahui konsep dan prosedur dari media, menciptakan iklim pembelajaran yang kondusif untuk kelancaran proses belajar, juga diperlukan seseorang yang membantu dalam menerapkan penggunaan media alternative and augmentative communication pada anak dan dilaksanakan pada waktu yang telah diprogramkan The factor that underlying this research is there still be found children who encounter communication disorder. It is showed by a 15-year-old student who still has difficulties to communicate verbally, generally in age of 15 he should have adequate skill to master syntax elements of his own mother tongue. Most of the time, he seems to be confused and hurt himself whenever he cannot express his feeling. Due to that condition, he needs help from people around him. This study aims at developing an alternative and augmentative communication media, in effort to develop the communication skills of children with communication difficulty. The study used Exploratory Mixed Methods Research Design. This design is chosen because the researchers had to deal with two types of data, qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative data is descriptive data that resulted in the development of alternative and augmentative communication media; while quantitative data is a result of the alternative and augmentative communication media which formulated based on the qualitative data. Based on the field observation indicate that: 1) the development of alternative and augmentative communication produces communication boards, communication books, some photos about goods which are familiar to the children, communication media implementation procedures. 2) The AAC media which has been developed also influenced children's communication skills. The children showed some improvement in his communication skills. Based on the research findings, the researcher recommends 1) the use of alternative and augmentative communication media, such assessment requires various stages through observation, interviews, and so forth, where it requires a relatively long time therefore expect the media who wish to develop alternative and augmentative this should consistent in these stages. 2) For those who want to implement alternative and augmentative communication media should pay attention to some things that have to know in advance about the child's condition, knowing the concepts and procedures of the media, creating a learning climate that is conducive to smooth the process of learning, also needed a someone which helps in implementing the use of alternative and augmentative communication media in children and carried out at pre-defined
