Abstract

Tingkat motivasi berprestasi siswa seringkali berada pada kondisi yang menghawatirkan. Untuk meningkatkan motivasi berprestasi dapat dilakukan dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran yang tepat. Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk menghasilkan model pembelajaran ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction) untuk meningkatkan motivasi berprestasi siswa. Model pembelajaran tersebut dikembangkan berdasarkan pendekatan humanistis dan dipadukan berdasarkan dengan hasil studi pendahuluan tentang profil motivasi berprestasi siswa Kelas XII SMA Daarul Ilmi Cipeundeuy. Studi pendahuluan ini menunjukkan hasil bahwa profil motivasi berprestasi siswa kelas XII SMA Daarul Ilmi secara umum berada pada kategori sedang, baik yang meliputi aspek Need for Achievement (N), Goal State (Ga), Instrumental Activity (I), Personal Obstacle (Bp) dan Environmental Obstacle (Bw), Affective State (G), dan Nurturant Press (Nup). Artinya, bahwa siswa kelas XII SMA Daarul Ilmi pada umumnya belum mencapai pada tingkat motivasi berprestasi yang optimal. Desain penelitian ini menggunakan desain eksperimen kuasi. Penelitian dilakukan dengan mengambil sampel siswa kelas XII SMA Daarul Ilmi Cipeundeuy, dengan jumlah 60 siswa, yang terdiri dari 30 siswa di kelas kontrol dan 30 siswa di kelas eksperimen. Setelah dirumuskan model hipotetik pembelajaran ARCS, kemudian dilakukan uji validasi rasional dan empirik, hingga ditemukan bahwa model pembelajaran ARCS efektif untuk meningkatkan motivasi berprestasi siswa, yang melingkupi hampir semua aspek motivasi berprestasi tersebut. Dengan demikian model pembelajaran ARCS dapat dipertimbangkan sebagai kerangka kerja konseptual dalam pengembangan model pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan motivasi berprestasi siswa. Rekomendasi penelitian ini ditujukan kepada LPTK, guru atau tenaga kependidikan, dan penelitian selanjutnya. One of the ways to increase the motivation to achieve is by using the appropriate learning model. The research aims to produce an ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction) learning model to improve students’ motivation to achieve. The learning model is developed based on humanistic approach and combined with a preliminary study on the profile of motivation to achieve of the twelfth grade students of SMA (Senior High School) Daarul Ilmi Cipeundeuy. The preliminary study shows that in general the profile of motivation to achieve of the twelfth grade students of SMA Daarul Ilmi can be categorized into moderate, in terms of the aspects of Need for Achievement (N), Goal State (Ga), Instrumental Activity (I), Personal Obstacle (Bp) and Environmental Obstacle (Bw), Affective State (G), and Nurturant Press (Nup). The findings mean that the twelfth grade students of SMA Daarul Ilmi generally have not achieved the optimal motivation to achieve. The present research adopted a quasi-experimental design. It was conducted by taking 60 twelfth grade students of SMA Daarul Ilmi Cipeundeuy as the sample, divided them into 30 students for the control class and experimental class, respectively. After the formulation of ARCS hypothetical learning model, a rational and empirical validation was undertaken to test the effectiveness of the learning model. It is found that the ARCS learning model is effective in increasing students’ motivation to achieve, encompassing all aspects related to the motivation. Hence, ARCS learning model can be considered as a conceptual framework in the development of a learning model intended to increase students’ motivation to achieve. The recommendations of this research are directed at teacher training colleges, teachers or academic administrative staffs, and future researchers.
