Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan sintesis partikel karbon berpori dari jerami padi sebagai sumber karbon menggunakan metode ekstraksi alkali sederhana. Proses ekstraksi dilakukan pada suhu 60°C selama 2 jam diiringi pengadukan 600 rpm. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan variasi KOH dengan rasio massa KOH:abu:aquades sebesar 0:1:8; 0,50:1:8; 1,50:1:8; dan 4,50:1:8; sedangkan variasi aquades dilakukan dengan rasio massa KOH:abu:aquades sebesar 1,50:1:8 dan 1,50:1:16. Evaluasi keberhasilan proses sintesis karbon berpori dilakukan dengan beberapa karakterisasi, diantaranya: X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Thermo Gravity Differential Thermal Analysis (TG-DTA), Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR), dan Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). Hasil TG-DTA menunjukkan bahwa jerami padi terkonversi menjadi 22,27% abu dengan pemanasan 513,25°C. Hasil gravimetri menunjukkan bahwa abu jerami padi mengandung 84,60% silika. Hasil AAS menunjukkan bahwa abu jerami padi mengandung logam oksida, seperti: K2O (6,39%), CaO (0,88%), MgO (0,44%), dan Fe2O3 (0,16%). Hasil XRD menunjukkan tidak adanya puncak pada difraktogram yang mengindikasikan bahwa produk adalah partikel karbon amorf. Hasil FTIR menunjukkan puncak pada 1382 dan 1656 cm-1, mengindikasikan C-H bending dan C=O stretching dari karbon. Selain itu, silika juga terdapat pada produk karbon yang diindikasikan oleh puncak pada 460; 771; dan 840 cm-1 yang merepresentasikan Si-O-Si bending, O-Si-O symmetric stretching, dan Si-O-Si stretching. Hasil TEM menunjukkan bahwa produk berbentuk bulat dengan diameter rata-rata 161,99 nm dan ukuran pori rata-rata 8,50 nm. The aim of this research was to synthesize porous carbon particles from rice straw as carbon sources using a simple alkaline extraction method. The extraction process was conducted at temperature of 60°C with continous stirring at 600 rpm for 2 hours. In this experiment, using varied KOH with mass ratio of KOH:ash:aquades at 0:1:8; 0.50:1:8; 1.50:1:8; and 4.50:1:8; while varied aquades with mass ratio of KOH:ash:aquades at 1.50:1:8 and 1.50:1:16. Evaluation of reliability of the process to get porous particles, several analyses were conducted: an X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), a Thermo Gravity Differential Thermal Analysis (TG-DTA), an Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), a Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR), and a Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The TG-DTA results showed that rice straw converted to 22.27% ash by heating at 513.25°C. The gravimetric results showed that rice straw ash containing 84.60% of silica. The AAS results showed that rice straw ash containing metal oxide, such as K2O (6.39%), CaO (0.88%), MgO (0.44%), and Fe2O3 (0.16%). The XRD results showed no peak at diffractogram indicating that product is amorphous carbon. FTIR results showed peaks at 1382 and 1656 cm-1, indicating C-H bending and C=O stretching from carbon. In addition, the silica was consited in carbon product indicated by peaks at 460; 771; and 840 cm-1 which representing Si-O-Si bending, O-Si-O symmetric stretching, and Si-O-Si stretching, respectively. The TEM results showed that the product was spherical particles with an average diameter of 161.99 nm and an average pores size of 8.50 nm.
