Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui potensi ekstrak rimpang lempuyang emprit (Zingiber amaricans) sebagai inhibitor korosi pada baja karbon dalam medium asam (HCl 0,5 M) untuk pencucian logam dengan asam (Pickling). Ekstraksi serbuk rimpang lempuyang dilakukan dengan cara maserasi dengan menggunakan 2 pelarut yang berbeda, yaitu metanol dan etilasetat yang dilakukan selama 24 jam. Pengujian laju korosi dilakukan menggunakan metode pengurangan berat (weight loss). Baja karbon BS 1501 161 403 A digunakan sebagai media kerja. Inhibitor ekstrak lempuyang ditambahkan kedalam media korosi asam klorida 0,5 M dengan variasi konsentrasi 40 ppm, 80 ppm, 120 ppm, 160 ppm, dan 200 ppm dengan lama waktu pengujian selama 24 jam pada suhu ruangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa inhibitor lempuyang dapat menghambat lajukorosi pada baja karbon. Konsentrasi inhibitor optimum lempuyang ekstrak metanol dalam menghambat korosi adalah pada konsentrasi 200 ppm dengan nilai laju korosi sebesar 0.1973 mm.th-1 dan dengan efisiensi inhibisi sebesar 85,99 %. Sedangkan konsentrasi optimum lempuyang ekstrak etilasetat pada konsentrasi 200 ppm dengan nilai laju korosi sebesar 0.2796 mm.th-1 dan efisiensi inhibisi sebesar 89,06 %. Dengan hasil tersebut menunjukan bahwa ekstrak lempuyang berpotensi sebagai inhibitor korosi pada baja karbon dengan medium asam (HCl 0,5 M). The purpose of this research was to study about zingiber amaricansextract as inhibitor on carborized steel in acid medium (HCl 0,5 M) for the purposes of metal leaching with acid (Pickling). The extraction rhizome powder was done by maseration with two kind of solvents, such as methanol and ethylacetic for 24 hours. The corrosion rate was determined by weight loss method. BS 1501 161 403A carborized steel is used as the working medium.The zingiber amaricans extract as inhibitor was added in to chloric acid as medium with various concentration 40 ppm, 80 ppm, 120 ppm, 160 ppm, and 200 ppm for 24 hours each at room temperature. The results was shown that zingiber amaricans extract could restrain the corrosion rate on carburized steel. The optimum concentration of zingiber amaricans extract which extracted with methanol was 200 ppm with corrosion rate as 0.1973 mm.th-1with inhibition efficiency as 85.99 %. While, The optimum concentration of zingiber amaricans extract which extracted with ethylacetic was 200 ppm with corrosion rate as 0.2716 mm.th-1 with inhibition efficiency as 89.06 %. These results shows that zingiber amaricans extract has potention as corrosion inhibitor on carburized steel in the acid medium (HCl 0.5 M).
