Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh beberapa permasalahan yang sering dijumpai di sekolah, yaitu sulitnya siswa memahami konsep pelajaran yang mereka pelajari, sehingga timbul kesalahan konsep terhadap pelajaran tersebut, Terutama mata pelajaran matematika, siswa yang terbiasa mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan model classical atau drill, mereka hanya mengetahui teori saja tanpa tahu makna yang membangun materi tersebut. Untuk mengatasi masalah diatas diperlukan beberapa pendekatan dalam proses pembelajarannya, sehingga diharapkan siswa dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep matematisnya. Secara khusus peneliti akan meneliti tentang bagaimana proses pembelajaran dengan menggunakan pendekatan discovery dalam usaha meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa, dan bagaimana peningkatan pemahaman konsep siswa setelah diterapkannya pendekatan discovery dalam pembelajaran matematika. Sehingga peneliti dapat mendeskripsikan bagaimana proses pembelajarannya dan menjelaskan pengaruh pendekatan discovery terhadap peningkatan pemahaman konsep siswa, Penelitian ini akan menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas, yang dilaksanakan di sekolah dasar daerah sukajadi. Instrument pengumngkap data, berupa instrument data proses yaitu lembar observasi siswa, lembar observasi guru dan catatan lapangan. Sedangkan instrument data hasil yaitu lembar evaluasi untuk mengetahui peningkatan pemahaman konsep siswa, setelah menggunakan pendekatan discovery. Hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini adalah adanya peningkatan pemahaman konsep dari siklus I hingga siklus II sebesar 8,23%. Pada siklus I pemahaman konsep siswa terhadap materi bangun datar dan kesebangunannya sebesar 81,08% sedangkan pada siklus II naik menjadi 89,28%. Pendekatan discovery ini memiliki pengaruh yang cukup baik dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa, namun keaktifan siswa menjadi kunci utama dalam pelaksanaan pendekatan discovery ini. The background of this research are several problems commonly found in school, the students are difficult to understand the concept of the lessons they have learned, which caused misconceptions on the subject. Especially in mathematics courses, students used classical or drill model during instruction, they only know the theory without knowing the meaning of the building material. To solvethat problems, required several approaches in the learning process to improve their mathematicalunderstanding concepts. In a specific goals researcher will examine how is the learning process by implementing discovery approach in order to improve students understanding concepts, and how is the increased of students understanding concept after implementing discovery approach in mathematics. This research aims to describe how the learning process and explain the influence of the discovery approach to improvestudents understanding concepts. The method used in this research is classroom action research, which was conducted in elementary schools around Sukajadi area. Data collection technique used in this research is students and teacher observation sheets, field notes and documentation to describe students concepts understanding after implementing discovery approach. This research results showed an increase of students concepts understanding from cycle I to cycle II reach 8,23%. Cycle I students concepts understanding of a flat material and the same characteristic reach 81,08%. Increased in cycle II up to 89,28%. It can be concluded that implementation of discovery approach have a positive influence to increased students concepts understanding, but the main key is students activeness learning during the implementation of discovery approach.
