    Abstract

This study aims to gain an overview of the implementation of process oriented guided inquiry learning (POGIL) model to improve students’ cognitive abilities and students’ science process skills. The research method used was pre-experimental with one group pretest-posttest design. The samples included one class which were selected by cluster random sampling method. The data was collected by pretest and posttest to measure the increase of students’ cognitive abilities and students’ science process skills, sets of observations for science process skills aspects, and observation sheets. The results showed the use of POGIL model increase students' cognitive abilities and students’ science process skills. It can be seen from the N-Gain cognitive ability of 0.62 in the medium category and N-gain for science process skills was 0.56 in the medium category. It can be concluded that POGIL model as one of learning model that can improve students’ cognitive abilities and students’ science process skills.
