Abstract

Kata kunci: Pembelajaran terintegrasi, struktur tumbuhan, fungsi tumbuhan, beban kognitif, PeNKIM A study using Research and Development method was focused on developing an integrated learning that can be used to integrate plant structures to functions to reduce students’ cognitive load. The results of a preliminary study conducted in biology education courses at a university in Kuningan suggests that integrated learning to facilitate the students to integrate concepts has not developed. Based on this study an integrated learning of Nested-type with Marzano Instructional Framework (PeNKIM) was developed, which consists of four learning stages, namely stages information, stimulation of prior knowledge, analysis and transformation of knowledge, internalization of knowledge. Subjects in this study were 128 students of Biology Education who had joined the course of Plant Anatomy. Suitable analysis of learning strategies and materials in order PeNKIM learning was made through feasibility testing strategies and sequence of the material as well as functioning at each stage of learning. Student cognitive load was measured using qualitative and quantitative analyzes based on the ability of information (intrinsic load), mental effort in receiving information (extraneous load), and reasoning ability (germane load). The implementation of the PeNKIM learning emphasized on the creation of a conducive learning environment, the use of prior knowledge, the development of the thinking potential, significant information packaging, contextual learning implementation, and cooperative learning implementation. Based on the analysis the cognitive load on students in integrating structure functions can be stated that the development of PeNKIM learning can reduce cognitive load. The correlation among the three components of cognitive load shows the positive correlation between intrinsic load towards germane load and a negative correlation between extraneous load towards germane load. Keywords: integrated learning, plant structure , plant physiology, cognitive load, PeNKIM.
