Abstract
Rendahnya kompetensi berpikir sistem dan kesadaran berkelanjutan pada peserta didik di Indonesia mendorong perlunya inovasi pembelajaran. Salah satu pendekatan yang efektif adalah pengembangan e-modul bermuatan Pendidikan untuk Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (ESD). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mengidentifikasi isu pabrik semen di Kabupaten Aceh Besar yang layak diintegrasikan ke dalam e-modul, (2) mendeskripsikan proses integrasinya, (3) menganalisis capaian kompetensi berpikir sistem, (4) menelaah capaian kesadaran berkelanjutan, dan (5) mengevaluasi respons peserta didik terhadap e-modul. Penelitian menggunakan metode mixed methods dengan desain eksploratori. Partisipan terdiri atas masyarakat sekitar pabrik kabupaten Aceh Besar, pejabat Dinas Lingkungan Hidup Aceh Besar, dan 72 peserta didik kelas X SMA di Aceh Besar, terbagi menjadi kelas eksperimen menggunakan e-modul bermuatan ESD dan kelas kontrol menggunakan buku teks IPA Biologi. Instrumen tes kompetensi berpikir sistem berupa delapan soal esai berdasarkan kerangka UNESCO (2017) dan instrumen non-tes angket kesadaran berkelanjutan berupa 27 pernyataan (Gericke et al., 2018). Analisis data menggunakan Mann-Whitney U Test. Hasil menunjukkan isu pabrik semen di Kabupaten Aceh Besar relevan untuk diintegrasikan pada e-modul bermuatan ESD, e-modul yang dikembangkan sangat valid dengan rata-rata nilai 3,81, serta penggunaan e-modul secara signifikan meningkatkan kompetensi berpikir sistem (p < 0,001) dan kesadaran berkelanjutan (p = 0,000) peserta didik pada kategori peningkatan sedang. Selain itu, peserta didik memberikan respons sangat baik terhadap e-modul dengan nilai diatas 85% pada aspek penyajian materi, fungsi e-modul, kebahasaan, grafik dan pengalaman belajar menggunakan e-modul bermuatan ESD. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa e-modul bermuatan ESD berpotensi mendukung pengembangan kompetensi berpikir sistem dan kesadaran berkelanjutan. One effective strategy is the development of e-modules incorporating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) content. This study aimed to: (1) identify issues related to the cement factory suitable for integration into the e-module, (2) describe the integration process, (3) analyze the achievement of system thinking competence, (4) examine the attainment of sustainability awareness, and (5) evaluate students’ responsses to the e-module. The study employed a mixed-methods approach with an exploratory design. Participants included the local community around the cement factory from the Aceh Besar Environmental Agency, and 72 tenth-grade high school students in Aceh Besar, divided into an experimental class using the ESD-based e-module and a control class using standard biology textbooks. The system thinking competence test consisted of eight essay questions based on the UNESCO (2017) framework, while sustainability awareness was assessed using a 27-item non-test questionnaire (Gericke et al., 2018). Data analysis was conducted using the Mann-Whitney U Test. The results indicated that issues related to the cement factory were relevant for integration into the ESD-based e-module. The developed e-module was highly valid, with an average score of 3.81. Its implementation significantly improved students’ system thinking competence (p < 0.001) and sustainability awareness (p = 0.000) at a moderate level of improvement. Furthermore, students responsded very positively to the e-module, with scores above 85% in aspects such as content presentation, e-module functionality, language, graphics, and learning experience using the ESD-based e-module. These findings suggest that ESD-based e-modules have the potential to support the development of system thinking competence and sustainability awareness.
