    Abstract

    Penelitian ini berjudul “Perkembangan Home Industry Kain Tenun di Kecamatan Majalaya Kabupaten Bandung : Pasang Surut dan Dampaknya terhadap Kehidupan Sosial Ekonomi Masyarakat (1998–2024)”. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kondsi home industry kain tenun di Kecamatan Majalaya yang pernah mengalami masa kejayaannya pada dekade 1960-an hingga mendapatkan julukan sebagai Kota Dolar, namun mengalami keterpurukan akibat krisis moneter pada tahun 1997-1998. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menganalisis kondisi home industry kain tenun di Kecamatan Majalaya pada masa keterpurukannya, khususnya tahun 1998-2024, serta dampak yang ditimbulkan terhadap masyarakat sekitar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode historis dengan tahapan heuristik, kritik sumber, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan pada penelitian ini yaitu studi kepustakaan dan wawancara, dengan mayoritas data berasal dari sumber lisan yang diperoleh dari hasil wawancara dengan para pelaku industri kain tenun dan pihak-pihak yang terkait. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa setelah krisis moneter, home industry kain tenun di Kecamatan Majalaya menghadapi beberapa tantangan besar, seperti penurunan permintaan, kenaikan bahan baku, keterbatasan modal, dan persaingan dengan barang impor. Para pengusaha kain tenun di Kecamatan Majalaya berusaha untuk bertahan dengan melakukan beberapa upaya, seperti inovasi teknologi, inovasi produk, dan pengurangan jumlah produksi. Kondisi keterpurukan ini cenderung berdampak terhadap kondisi sosial ekonomi masyarakat sekitarnya. Kesimpulannya, meskipun masih bertahan sampai saat ini, kondisi home industry kain tenun di Majalaya cenderung menurun dalam skala daya saing. This study is entitled “The Development of the Home Industry of Woven Fabrics in Majalaya District, Bandung Regency: Ups and Downs and Their Impact on the Socio-Economic Life of the Community (1998–2024)”. This research was motivated by the condition of the woven fabric home industry in Majalaya District, which had experienced its heyday in the 1960s and earned the nickname “Dollar City,” but then fell into decline due to the monetary crisis of 1997–1998. The purpose of this study is to analyze the condition of the woven fabric home industry in Majalaya District during its decline, particularly from 1998 to 2024, as well as the impact on the surrounding community. The research method used is the historical method with the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The data collection techniques used in this study were literature review and interviews, with the majority of data coming from oral sources obtained from interviews with woven fabric industry players and related parties. The results of this study show that after the monetary crisis, the woven fabric home industry in Majalaya District faced several major challenges, such as a decline in demand, an increase in raw material prices, limited capital, and competition with imported goods. Woven fabric entrepreneurs in Majalaya District tried to survive by making several efforts, such as technological innovation, product innovation, and reducing production volumes. This downturn tends to have an impact on the socioeconomic conditions of the surrounding community. In conclusion, although it has survived to date, the woven fabric home industry in Majalaya tends to be declining in terms of competitiveness.
