    Abstract

Cleft lip is a condition where there is a gap in the upper lip that can extend to the velum. This condition can make the patient difficult to produce sounds correctly. This study aims to describe the sound changes due to speech disorders in postoperative cleft lip patients. In addition, this study also compares the prosodic patterns of speech of post-operative cleft lip patients and speakers with normal speech including duration (s), fundamental frequency (F0) (Hz), and intensity (dB). This research is a case study that uses a qualitative approach with a comparative descriptive method. The subjects in this study are divided into two, the primary subject who is a post-operative cleft lip patient (SP) and the secondary subject three speakers with normal speech (SPN). Data were collected by conducting structured and unstructured interviews, by preparing instruments in the form of vocabulary lists, sentences, and question lists. The results showed that: 1) SP can pronounce vowel sounds clearly; 2) SP can pronounce some conconant sounds clearly without interference such as [c], [v], [f], [s], [ʃ], [h], [x], [m], [n], [ɲ], [ŋ], [l], [w], and [y]; 3) SP has sound additions in the form of aspirations in the sound [b], [p], [d], [j], [k], substitutions in the sound [g], [t], [z], [r], and omissions in the form of syncope in the sound [g]; 4) in prosodic pattern in the form of duration, fundamental frequency (F0), and intensity there are no significant differences between postoperative cleft lip patients and speakers with normal speech.
