    Abstract

Introduction: Sports injuries are a major challenge for student athletes, affecting not only physical aspects but also psychological aspects, particularly in the form of reinjury anxiety. Objective: This study aims to analyze reinjury anxiety in young adult athletes and other impacts that affect performance and mental readiness. Methods: This study used a case study approach with interviews analyzed in three stages. The research was conducted on Sambo and Kurash athletes with the following inclusion criteria: young adult athletes (18–24 years old) with at least three years of experience, who had experienced moderate to severe injuries at least twice, underwent rehabilitation for 1–12 months, and had competition experience at both the regional and national levels. The research instrument used questions based on Wadey et al. (2014) in Gunawan et al. (2019), grouped into three symptom categories: emotional, cognitive, and somatic, across three recovery phases (during injury, rehabilitation, and return to sports). Results: The results indicate that anxiety related to recurrent injuries manifests differently, characterized by emotional symptoms (sadness, worry, frustration); cognitive symptoms (negative thoughts, fear); and somatic symptoms (chronic pain, limited mobility, and sleep disturbances). Changes in technique and avoidance behavior were observed in both athletes, leading to decreased performance and self-confidence. Environmental factors such as competitive pressure, lack of coach support, rehabilitation systems, and lack of openness about injury conditions can exacerbate the recovery process. Conclusion: These findings emphasize the need for holistic interventions, appropriate coping strategies, and psychosocial support from coaches, families, and the surrounding community to ensure optimal recovery and return to performance for athletes.
