Abstract

Presupposition is an important concept in pragmatics that can help explain how the meaning of an utterance can change according to the context and the shared knowledge of the speaker and listener. Therefore, this research aims to identify and analyze the types of presuppositions in the debate between Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen in the 2022 French presidential election. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a note taking technique to collect and process data systematically. The data analyzed are in the form of utterances from both candidates obtained through the TF1 INFO YouTube channel. Subsequently, the data is analyzed using the presupposition theory proposed by Yule (1996) to identify various types of presuppositions contained in the utterances. Based on the results of the analysis, 269 utterances were found containing various types of presuppositions, namely 67 utterances of existential presuppositions, 139 utterances of factual presuppositions, 24 utterances of lexical presuppositions, 15 utterances of structural presuppositions, 11 non factive presuppositions, and 13 utterances of counterfactual presuppositions. Thus, the results of this study provide an overview of the presuppositions that emerge in official conversations through political debates. Presuposisi merupakan konsep penting dalam pragmatik yang dapat membantu menjelaskan bagaimana makna sebuah tuturan dapat berubah tergantung pada konteks dan pengertahuan yang dibagikan oleh penutur dan pendengar. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis jenis-jenis presuposisi dalam debat antara Emmanuel Macron dan Marine Le Pen pada pemilihan presiden Prancis tahun 2022. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik simak catat untuk mengumpulkan dan mengolah data secara sistematis. Data yang dianalisis berupa tuturan dari kedua kandidat yang diperoleh melalui kanal YouTube TF1 INFO. Selanjutnya, data tersebut dianalisis menggunakan teori presuposisi yang dikemukakan oleh Yule (1996) untuk mengidentifikasi berbagai jenis presuposisi yang terdapat dalam tuturan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, ditemukan sebanyak 269 tuturan yang mengandung enam jenis presuposisi, yaitu presuposisi eksistensial 67 tuturan, presuposisi faktif 139 tuturan, presuposisi leksikal 24 tututan, presuposisi struktural 15 tuturan, presuposisi nonfaktif 11, dan presuposisi kontrafaktual 13 tuturan. Dengan demikian, hasil kajian ini memberikan gambaran tentang presuposisi yang muncul dalam percakapan resmi melalui debat politik.
