Abstract
This study, entitled “Implementation of the doo to door education method as an anticipative socialization to develop caring behavior towards waste management in the cikutra community of bandung city”, is motivated by the increasing volume of waste, the limited capacity of final disposal sites, and the low level of public awareness in household waste separation. Previous mass socialization programs have proven inconsistent in fostering sustainable behavior. This research aims to analyze the implementation of the Door to Door Education (DTDE) method, identify its supporting and inhibiting factors, and examine its impacts on behavioral change, social cohesion, and the environmental culture of the Cikutra community. A qualitative approach with a single embedded case study design was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving residents receiving DTDE, community leaders, the Community Self-Help Group (KSM Sekolah Kehidupan), and the program initiator. Data were analyzed using Miles & Huberman’s interactive model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.Findings show that DTDE effectively improves knowledge, skills, and household waste management practices, particularly in organic-inorganic separation and processing through composters, ecoenzymes, and collective bins. These practices not only reduce residual waste sent to landfills but also strengthen social cohesion through collaboration, environmental solidarity, and the emergence of new community norms regarding cleanliness. Supporting factors include the active role of KSM, structural support from neighborhood leaders, and community social capital, while barriers arise from limited land, narrow road access, and fluctuating participation. The study concludes that DTDE is a participatory education model capable of bridging formal waste management policies with local practices while fostering a collective culture of adaptive and sustainable waste management. Its implications highlight the need to replicate DTDE as a community-based policy model in urban areas.
