Abstract
ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pitch control pada vokalis ekstrakurikuler band di SMP Kartika XIX-2 Bandung melalui latihan pernapasan diafragma. Rumusan masalah utama dalam penelitian ini adalah: Bagaimana upaya meningkatkan pitch control siswa dengan latihan metode pernapasan diafragma? Pertanyaan penelitiannya meliputi: (1) Bagaimana kondisi kemampuan pitch control vokalis sebelum diterapkan latihan pernapasan diafragma? (2) Bagaimana proses penerapan latihan pernapasan diafragma? dan (3) Bagaimana hasil peningkatan kemampuan pitch control setelah latihan dilakukan? Penelitian menggunakan metode Penelitian Tindakan (Action Research) dengan model McTaggart yang terdiri dari tahap perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian adalah dua siswi vokalis aktif dalam kegiatan ekstrakurikuler band. Proses pelatihan dilakukan dalam dua siklus melalui tujuh pertemuan, dengan materi latihan mulai dari teknik pernapasan dasar seperti metode 4-4-4, humming, penggunaan sedotan, hingga praktik menyanyikan lagu secara utuh. Teknik pengumpulan data meliputi observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi, dan rekaman video. Analisis dilakukan secara deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan pitch control vokalis mengalami perkembangan positif. Sebelum latihan, vokalis cenderung mengalami kesulitan dalam menjaga kestabilan nada, mudah kehilangan nada (off-pitch), cepat kehabisan napas, dan kurang percaya diri saat bernyanyi. Setelah latihan pernapasan diafragma diterapkan secara konsisten, ketepatan nada vokalis menjadi lebih akurat, suara lebih stabil dan tidak mudah goyah, serta kemampuan dalam mengatur napas meningkat sehingga mampu menyelesaikan frase lagu tanpa terputus. Selain itu, vokalis juga menunjukkan peningkatan stamina vokal dan kepercayaan diri ketika tampil. Kemajuan ini tampak melalui performa vokal yang lebih matang dan konsisten dalam menyanyikan lagu baik secara individu maupun saat latihan bersama band. ABSTRACT This study aims to improve pitch control ability in extracurricular band vocalists at SMP Kartika XIX-2 Bandung through diaphragmatic breathing exercises. The main problem formulations in this study are: How to improve students' pitch control by practicing diaphragmatic breathing method? The research questions include: (1) What is the condition of the vocalist's pitch control ability before diaphragmatic breathing exercises are applied? (2) How is the process of applying diaphragmatic breathing exercises? and (3) How are the results of improving pitch control ability after the exercise is done? The research used the Action Research method with the McTaggart model consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were two female vocalists active in extracurricular band activities. The training process was carried out in two cycles through seven meetings, with training materials ranging from basic breathing techniques such as the 4-4-4 method, humming, using straws, to the practice of singing songs in full. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, documentation, and video recordings. Analysis was done descriptively qualitative. The results showed that the vocalists' pitch control ability experienced positive development. Before training, vocalists tend to have difficulty in maintaining pitch stability, easily lose pitch (off-pitch), run out of breath quickly, and lack confidence when singing. After diaphragmatic breathing exercises were consistently applied, vocalists' pitch accuracy became more accurate, voices were more stable and less shaky, and the ability to regulate breathing increased so that they were able to complete song phrases without being interrupted. In addition, vocalists also showed increased vocal stamina and confidence when performing. This progress can be seen through more mature and consistent vocal performance in singing songs both individually and during rehearsals with the band.
