Abstract
Penelitian ini mengangkat objek kajian cerita rakyat legenda masyarakat Bengkulu dan intermedialitasnya menjadi novel. Penelitian dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya apresiasi generasi muda terhadap cerita rakyat, padahal kekayaan budaya lokal ini memiliki peran penting, terutama bagi dunia pendidikan, sehingga harus dijaga keberadaannya sesuai amanat Undang-undang Pemajuan Kebudayaan. Tujuan utama penelitian adalah untuk melestarikan legenda masyarakat Bengkulu melalui kegiatan pelindungan, pengembangan, dan pemanfaatan. Upaya yang dilakukan untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut adalah dengan cara mengkaji dan mendeskripsikan struktur, konteks penuturan, nilai-nilai, fungsi cerita legenda masyarakat Bengkulu, dan pemanfaatannya sebagai buku pengayaan dalam bentuk novel dan buku panduan. Legenda yang dikaji fokus pada legenda Raden Alit. Penelitian kualitatif ini mengikuti desain analisis deskriptif dan Art Based Educational Research (ABER). Data penelitian didapat melalui observasi, wawancara, merekam, dan penelusuran arsip (dokumen tertulis). Analisis dilakukan secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa legenda masyarakat Bengkulu memiliki varian-varian. Ditemukan ada tiga varian Legenda Raden Alit yang menjadi fokus pada penelitian ini. Selain legenda, masyarakat Bengkulu juga memiliki cerita rakyat jenis mitos dan dongeng, tetapi tidak dikaji secara mendalam pada penelitian ini. Melalui metode yang digunakan, penelitian ini tidak hanya mengkaji unsur-unsur dalam cerita rakyat secara komprehensif, tetapi juga merepresentasikan partisipasi aktif peneliti dalam mengimplementasikan amanat Undang-Undang No. 5 Tahun 2017, yaitu dengan mengadaptasi legenda Raden Alit menjadi novel “Bajau”. Berdasarkan hasil dan analisis tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa kajian cerita rakyat dalam hal ini legenda dapat dilakukan secara interdisipliner, yaitu melalui kolaborasi metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan berbasis seni. Proses ini menghadirkan nuansa baru dalam penelitian cerita rakyat yang mengikuti perkembangan zaman, sehingga dapat menjadi sarana dalam upaya meningkatkan apresiasi generasi muda terhadap potensi sastra lokal yang mereka miliki. Hasil kajian dan produk penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi nyata dalam pelestarian cerita rakyat serta menjadi media yang bermanfaat bagi pengembangan dunia pendidikan, khususnya bagi pembelajaran sastra yang bermuatan nilai-nilai didaktis. This study explores the folk narrative of legends from the Bengkulu society and their intermedial adaptation into a novel. The research is motivated by the declining appreciation among younger generations for traditional folk stories, even though this cultural heritage holds significant value, especially in the field of education, and must be preserved by the mandate of the Cultural Advancement Law. The primary objective of this study is to preserve the legends of the Bengkulu society through efforts of protection, development, and utilisation. To achieve this objective, the study examines and describes the structure, storytelling context, values, and functions of the Bengkulu legends, as well as their potential for adaptation into enrichment books in the form of a novel and a guidebook. The legend under focus is the Legend of Raden Alit. This study employs a qualitative research approach with descriptive analysis and Art-Based Educational Research (ABER). Data were collected through observation, interviews, audio recording, and archival (written document) research. The analysis was conducted descriptively. The findings reveal that the legends of the Bengkulu community exist in several variants. Three variants of the Legend of Raden Alit were identified and became the central focus of this study. In addition to legends, the Bengkulu community also possesses other types of folk narratives, such as myths and fairy tales, but these were not explored in depth in this study. Through the chosen methodology, this research not only provides a comprehensive analysis of the elements in folk narratives but also represents the active participation of the researcher in implementing the mandate of Law No. 5 of 2017 by adapting the Legend of Raden Alit into the novel Bajau. Based on the results and analysis, it can be concluded that the study of folk narratives, particularly legends, can be conducted in an interdisciplinary manner—through a collaboration of qualitative descriptive methods and an art-based approach. This process introduces a new perspective in folklore research that aligns with the times, thus serving as a medium to enhance the younger generation's appreciation of their local literary heritage. The findings and the resulting creative products from this study are expected to contribute meaningfully to the preservation of folk narratives and serve as valuable resources for the advancement of education, especially in the teaching of literature infused with didactic values.
