Abstract
Penelitian ini berawal dari temuan peneliti di kelas VII E SMP Negeri 2 Lembang dimana keadaan peserta didik yang kurang fokus dalam proses belajar. Penilaian peserta didik yang kurang baik terhadap mata pelajaran IPS, kurangnya memiliki motivasi belajar dikarenakan tidak adanya media sebagai daya tarik yang digunakan pendidik ketika menyampaikan materi seperti media pembelajaran karena fasilitas sekolah yang kurang memadai dalam menyediakan media pembelajaran sehingga aktivitas belajar dalam kegiatan pembelajaranpun ikut berkurang. Melihat permasalahan yang akan diteliti berkaitan dengan proes pembelajaran, maka peneliti memilih penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) model Kemmis dan Taggart dalam 4 tindakan siklus. Penggunaan media gambar menjadi alternatif pemecahan masalah yang dipilih untuk meningkatkan akivitas belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS, ini dikarenakan media gambar adalah media pembelajaran yang sederhana dan mudah digunakan, selain itu media gambar juga sangat cocok digunakan di sekolah yang setiap kelasnya tidak memiliki aliran listrik atau bertempat di daerah yang terpencil. Dalam peningkatan aktivitas belajar siswa, peneliti memilih 4 indikator aktivitas belajar sebagai acuan dalam penelitian yaitu: a) Aktivitas Visual, b) Aktivitas Mendengarkan, c) Aktivitas Lisan, d) Aktivitas Menulis, dimana dari seluruh aspek ini mengalami perkembangan dari siklus pertama sampai siklus keempat dari kualitas cukup sampai baik dengan presentase 56,70%, 70,99%, 78,35%, dan 86,58% maka kesimpulannya adalah aktivitas belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS dapat meningkat melalui penggunaan media gambar. This study was conducted since there is a lack of focus from the students of class VII E SMP Negeri 2 Lembang during learning process, mostly during the Social Science class. This condition happened because of the deficiency of the usage of the media during learning activity which was influenced by the lack of facilities in the school that could be used by the teachers as the media during learning activity. Since this study dealt with the usage of the media in learning activity,the reasercher chose Classroom Action Reasearch (CAR) with 4 cycles of Kemmis and Taggart reasearch design. This study focused on the picture medium as the medium in learning activity and also as the medium to boost the focus of the students in Social Studies class since this medium is simple, easier to use, and suitable for the schools in the villages and little towns. 4 indicators of learning activity were set in this study as a tool to asses the improvement of the students in learning activity. They are: 1) Visual Activity, 2) Listening Activity, 3) Speaking Activity, and 4) Writing Activity. From those indicators, it could be seen that there were positive improvements in learning activity from the first until the fourth cycle, with the percentage of 56,70% in the first cycle, 70,99% in the second cycle, 78,35% in the third cycle, and 86,58% in the fourth cycle. As a conclusion, the usage of the picture medium can boost the focus of the students during learning activity in Social Studies class.
