Abstract
Kata kunci: Benigna Prostat Hiperplasia, Nyeri Akut, Slow Deep Breathing Background: Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a common urological condition among elderly men, often requiring Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) surgery. This procedure frequently results in postoperative pain, which can hinder patient comfort and recovery. One effective non-pharmacological intervention to reduce pain is the Slow Deep Breathing (SDB) technique. Objective: To describe the implementation of Slow Deep Breathing in reducing pain intensity in postoperative BPH patients and evaluate the effectiveness of this intervention within nursing care. Method: This study used a descriptive case study method involving one postoperative TURP patient at RSUD Umar Wirahadikusumah. The SDB intervention was applied for three consecutive days, with sessions lasting 15 minutes, three times a day. Pain intensity was assessed using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after each intervention. Results: On the first day, the patient's pain scale decreased from 5 to 4. On the second day, it decreased from 4 to 3, and on the third day, from 3 to 2. The patient appeared calmer, with reduced heart rate and no signs of infection or bleeding. The SDB technique proved effective in gradually reducing postoperative pain. Conclusion: The implementation of the Slow Deep Breathing technique is effective in reducing acute postoperative pain in BPH patients. This method can serve as an independent nursing intervention for non-pharmacological pain management that is safe, low- cost, and easy to implement.
