Abstract
This study aims to examine the influence of attention seeking and perceived social support on the tendency of sadfishing behavior on social media among early adults. This quantitative research employed a convenience sampling technique involving 433 early adult respondents in Indonesia. The research instruments included the Attention Seeking Scale (ASS) to measure attention seeking, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) to measure perceived social support, and the Social Media Sadfishing Questionnaire (SMSQ) to measure sadfishing behavior. The results indicate that attention seeking has a significant positive effect on sadfishing behavior, whereas perceived social support does not have a significant effect. However, simultaneously, both variables significantly affect sadfishing behavior, with attention seeking emerging as the primary predictor. These findings suggest that sadfishing behavior among early adults is more strongly driven by attention seeking motives than by the level of perceived social support. The implications of this study are expected to assist psychology practitioners, educators, and social media users in understanding the dynamics of sadfishing and in developing appropriate prevention and intervention strategies.
