    Abstract

The background of this research is that post-harvest coffee quality testing training at BPMJP plays an important role in improving human resource quality; however, some participants remain dependent on instructors and lack independence in practice. The Experiential Learning model is considered relevant as it emphasizes learning through direct experience, which can foster motivation, reflection, and learner autonomy. This study aims to describe the implementation of Experiential Learning in the training program and to examine its contribution to the development of participants’ learning independence. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with data collected through in-depth interviews with participants, instructors, and program organizers, as well as documentation studies. Data were analyzed through the stages of reduction, display, and conclusion drawing, while validity was ensured through source and method triangulation. The results show that: (1) participants actively engaged in discussions and practical activities (Concrete Experience); (2) participants reflected through pre-tests, post-tests, and awareness of their shortcomings during practice (Reflective Observation); (3) participants developed new understanding by connecting practice with theory (Abstract Conceptualization); and (4) some participants successfully applied the acquired skills in real work contexts (Active Experimentation). The study concludes that although the Experiential Learning model is not formally stated in the training curriculum, its implementation is evident in BPMJP’s learning process and has been proven to contribute to the enhancement of participants’ learning independence.
